I didn't care for Nicholas Holt's Beast either but his role evolved in the sequels. Him and McAvoy are the only two actors, from this iteration of X-Men, that put effort into all four movies. Which one did Fassbender not put effort into? Apocalypse & Dark Phoenix

Magneto didn’t even need to be in those movies. Or Mystique for that matter.

I'd much rather Mystique not be in any of them.

I'm very excited for X-Men to be given to marvel. The action scenes outside maybe a hand full of scenes have been atrocious. Dark phoenix was horrid from an action perspective (nightcrawler is the only saving grace). First class is better and days of future past has some really cool action but singer and kinberg both lack any sort of vision for that.
Give it to Marvel's second director team they will do much better.

SnoBorderZeroI'm very excited for X-Men to be given to marvel. The action scenes outside maybe a hand full of scenes have been atrocious. If PG Cooper is searching for video essay topics, here's a good one. Brett Ratner set the modern template for superhero movies. Before the climatic Alcatraz battle scene in The Last Stand, superhero movies were still following the Batman '89 approach in which the hero and villain have one final fight in an isolated location. The rooftop in Ninja Turtles. The construction site in Darkman. The statue of liberty in X-Men. Spider-Man vs Green Goblin and Doc Ock in abandoned/torn down places. Whatever the fuck that was in Ang Lee's Hulk. Brett Ratner was the first dude to say, "fuck that" and go balls to the wall with the finale. And he managed to do a better job than, say, Zack Snyder. Think about the chaotic mess that was the Man of Steel finale and compare that to Last Stand in which you can follow the action, there's humor ("grow those back"), each character gets a moment to shine and Wolverine killing Jean Grey had an emotional resonance to it.

Eh, I wouldn't give Ratner credit here.
Last Stand is a mess of way too many characters and way too much chaos, so it's really just natural that the climax is all of that culminating in a mindless final battle scene. I mean sure, they could've pulled a Matrix Revolutions and had everyone stand around Professor X and Magneto or some shit in a giant circle while they duke it out, but they went with really the only route they could take.
The only thing I credit Ratner for is being a piece of shit that epitomizes the worst of Hollywood filmmaking and I'm so happy he's cancelled.

In Matthew Vaughn’s script, the Alcatraz battle was in the 2nd act. Ratner is the one that moved it to the 3rd act and turned it into the climax. Vaughn’s climax was set in Washington DC, similar to the one in Days of Future Past.

Start it at Giant Size #1 if they're smart.

Start it at Giant Size #1 if they're smart. X-Men: Second Genesis would be a great title, but the plot of rescuing the X-Men from an island that turns out to be a mutant, isn’t quite “first movie” material. Whatever they do, they gotta explain why these mutants have been absent from the MCU. And more importantly, how people being prejudicial to them makes any sense in the context of the MCU.
