Dracula/ PG Cooper turn these threads into a pissing contest. Then 5 years later, like in IanTheCool's Important Movies thread, they're questioning why they voted for certain movies. Well, gee, I wonder why. If we're voting for 6 movies at a time, there should be a wide range of movies being selected in every round. This shouldn't turn into Dracula's "vote 4 muz dramas pleeze" thread. How many movies have been selected so far? Has there been a genuine comedy selected? Has there been a genuine horror movie selected? Has there been a science-fiction movie selected that isn't Nolan-esque Blade Runner? Has there been an animated film selected? People pushed for foreign language films. Has anything besides American-made Letters from Iwo Jima and City of God been selected? I submitted Y Tu Mama Tambien and it didn't get a single vote. Is Nolan-esque Children of Men any more validate than Y Tu Mama Tambien. Before you proceed to the next round you should compile the list of everything that's been selected and have a serious discussion about what's missing. If this list is just Muh Dramaz > Everything Else then that's just dumb. Representation matters and we should start voting in other types of movies.

I was not trying to haggle with the contagion comment. Was just saying that the competition is really strong now and as things narrow it will rise in how likely I am to vote for it. BTW if you nominate Y Tu Mama Tambien I would be happy to vote for it. I've only avoided nominating it myself because I don't know that it will get any votes. You will also note that I was one of the few people to vote for Borat when you nominated it. I only have one ballot, I can't sway things any more than anyone else can. |

Mystic River didn't get zero votes when you submitted it because I voted for it. That it's getting more votes now has less to do with who submitted it but when, as people's favorites get in the competition gets weaker and other movies have their chance. |
