I'm going to ask a stupid, ignorant to all things tech question. So I'm trying to condense my MST and Rifftrax collection onto blu-ray discs so I bought a blu-ray burner. Specifically this one Didn't really come with instructions, just "plug in and use." So far it does everything advertised...except what I bought it for. For some reason it won't read the BD-R discs that I bought, which are Optical Quantum brand. I'm not entirely sure why that is. I have a stupid theory, but it's probably wrong and based on flimsy evidence. When I look at this device in my folders it is listed as a "BD-RE Drive." Am I supposed to be using BD-RE discs? The item description says it should be able to burn BD-R's too.

I think that link you provided is only for you when logged into your account.
If it's a blu-ray burner that you installed in your computer, make sure its drivers are up to date. I could say the same for some standalone blu-ray burner/players, but it would be unusual if it didn't already prompt an update (assuming you connected it to the internet).

Something like this would have had it automatically updated as soon as it was plugged into your computer. The page indicates that it should do both BD-R and BD-RE.
I'm assuming you already have, but did you confirm it can play/read any blu-ray disc as well? Is it only your BD-R discs that are the problem? You might have to do some trial and error and buy another kind to see if the problem persists. Trying them in another blu-ray player would also be important. If you don't have another one, maybe ask a friend.
I personally wouldn't go to wish for electronics in the future. It's going to be hard to find specific support for this blu-ray player because it's just a mass-manufactured, nameless electronic from (presumably) China. Some blu-ray players can have separate drivers and firmware updates you can download for them, but it's impossible to tell for this one, and it's very possible that this particular player has guts that need some kind of firmware update to read its own burned discs.
The discs you bought should be fine, but I wouldn't trust putting anything too important on them in combination with a burner like this. If it's a cheap burner, it could lessen the life span of the discs and possibly over-burn them. IE quicker deterioration of the burned sections of the blu-ray discs after data has been written to it.
