Cut both even though I really like High Noon. There are better Westerns.

Anyone else have a cut/keep on High Noon before I let Ian's lukewarm keep decide it?

alright so by indifferent voters and my count, High Noon is in 4-3 (with Ian's assistance) and Shane is out. Next set up in a bit.

This pairing brought to you by war movies:
Director: David Lean Produced by Sam Spiegel Written by Carl Foreman , Michael Wilson Based on a book of the same name by Pierre Boulle, who also wrote Planet of the Apes Starring: William Holden, Alec Guiness , Jack Hawkins Genre: British War Movies
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #13 on 1998's AFI Top 100
British POWs are ordered by their Japanese captors to construct a bridge of strategic importance and are happy to sabotage and delay the progress until their commanding officers orders them to continue the work unhindered to its completion, but are his actions tantamount to collaborating with the enemy?
Trivia: The elephants employed in helping build the bridge would take breaks every four hours and lie around in the water, whether the crew wanted them to or not.
Director: Oliver Stone Written by Oliver Stone Starring: Charlie Sheen, Willem Defoe, Tom Berenger Genre: Vietnam
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #83 on 1998's AFI Top 100
Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen) leaves his university studies to enlist in combat duty in Vietnam in 1967. Once he's on the ground in the middle of battle, his idealism fades. Infighting in his unit between Staff Sergeant Barnes (Tom Berenger), who believes nearby villagers are harboring Viet Cong soldiers, and Sergeant Elias (Willem Dafoe), who has a more sympathetic view of the locals, ends up pitting the soldiers against each other as well as against the en http:// emy.
Trivia: The movie poster depicting Elias with his hands in the air is a recreation of a 1968 photograph by Art Greenspon. This photograph was recognized as the thirteenth greatest military photograph in a September 2000 issue of the Army/Navy/AF Time.
My Votes: Bridge on the River Kwai: Keep, I guess. It's definitely British and not American. But we've already broke that barrier with other movies. Platoon: Cut. I love the score, but really not much else. Like Oliver Stone, it's not nearly as deep as it thinks it is.

This pairing brought to you by Ernest Lehman:
Director: Robert Wise , Jerome Robbins Produced by Sam Spiegel Written by Ernest Lehman , Arthur Laurents Starring: Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer Genre: Musical
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #41 on 1998's AFI Top 100
A musical in which a modern day Romeo and Juliet are involved in New York street gangs. On the harsh streets of the upper west side, two gangs battle for control of the turf. The situation becomes complicated when a gang members falls in love with a rival's sister.
Trivia: During the entire production, the actors wore out 200 pairs of shoes, applied more than 100lbs of make-up, split 27 pairs of pants and performed in 30 different recording sessions.
Director: Mike Nichols Written by Ernest Lehman Starring: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton Genre: Drama
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #67 on 1998's AFI Top 100
History professor George (Richard Burton) and his boozy wife, Martha (Elizabeth Taylor), return late one Saturday night from a cocktail party at the home of the college president, Martha's father. Martha announces that she invited another couple, newly appointed instructor Nick (George Segal) and his timid wife, Honey (Sandy Dennis), over for a nightcap. When the younger couple arrive, the night erupts into a no-holds-barred torrent of marital angst and verbal tirades.
Trivia: July 18, 1966: Police seized this movie, and arrested the manager of a local Nashville, Tennessee theater for contravening a municipal order that banned movies such as this one, for contents of an obscene nature.
My Votes:
West Side Story: Keep. The music alone permeates the culture Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf: Keep. Since you guys voted out Streetcar, we need a chamber play/couples fight movie. This fits the bill.
