Dracula, still up for the Fargo and Safety Last tit-for-tat? Wyldstaar has LA Confidential carrying forward and can nominate another, or 2 if they want to not put LA Confidential forward. Anyone else regular here that wants to nominate, feel free.

Hmmm, I'm gonna go Back to the Future, for reasons I've already stated. No one is biting on Exorcist so I will wait.
I'm going to go with Safety Last to round out more of the silent movie presence.
Fargo was on the original 90's list, then taken off. I think it should have stayed. So Fargo.

I find myself hesitant on Safety Last, because while I enjoy Harold Lloyd's work, I don't specifically love anything from it. Safety Last is a pretty good movie with a great climax, but I don't consider it anything that I'm really over the moon about. As far as Harold Lloyd goes, I'm a bit fonder of Kid Brother, Speedy, and while I probably won't get much backing on it, but I remember really liking Hot Water. Would I vote for any of them? Probably not.
If we want to get another silent on the list, I think we should go more diverse than comedy and maybe find a drama. But that era isn't in my specialty. If we can get a hold of Fritzi who runs Movies Silently should could put out some banger suggestions though.

PG Cooper, if you want to throw your Frankenstein vote behind Bride of Frankenstein to keep that competitive you can bank one of my votes for a selection of your choice either now or in the future.

If we want to get another silent on the list, I think we should go more diverse than comedy and maybe find a drama. But that era isn't in my specialty. If we can get a hold of Fritzi who runs Movies Silently should could put out some banger suggestions though. The issue is that a lot of the truly great silent dramas weren't American, they were often German or Russian. Sunrise is on the list (which was an American film from a German director) and y'all decided to vote off Intolerance so there's not much left. I wouldn't mind The Big Parade or The Crowd being on the list, but I'm not sure how many people around here have seen them. So to me it isn't entirely inaccurate to say that the major American contribution to the era were the comedies and Harold Lloyd was a big part of that, and to me Safety Last is pretty clearly the most iconic work to represent him and also just a classic example of silent stunt work and also how to build a relatable character with the tools of the era.

At the same time, that stuff is already represented by Chaplin and Keaton. It's not enough for me to vote for a movie that I like but don't love.

Kinda. Stroheim's first cut was something like 9 hours long (which doesn't necessarily mean he expected he would be able to release that). He wanted it to be something like three or four hours long, but the studio cut it down to 140 minutes, which is what's survived. There is however a reconstruction that's been put together using on set still pictures and the original script which is about four hours long. I've seen that version and it... kind of drags.

I voted for...
Touch of Evil - For some reason I assumed this was on the AFI list and didn't nominate it prior. This is Welles' greatest achievement aside from Citizen Kane and in many ways represents the last great film noir until we got into neo-noirs. Yes, films like The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, and Double Indemnity are already on the list, but in my opinion while those are all excellent films Touch of Evil is superior.
Fargo - Another one that for some reason I thought was already on the list. I'm also a big advocate of No Country for Old Men, but Fargo seems like the better option for now for inclusion. It's such a unique film in many ways, and is the best representation of the Coens' wonderful career.
Alien - And yet another that makes you go how the fuck is this not on here. A masterpiece that transcended both genres it tackles, Alien is among several 1970s horror entries deserving of the list that AFI has completely overlooked. I'm a huge fan of both The Exorcist and The Shining and would have both of those on there too, but I think Alien is essential because the AFI list is sorely lacking in sci-fi outside of Blade Runner and 2001.
