What the hell, I'll switch my American Tail vote to Pinocchio. And I'll switch Shrek 2 to Fantasia.

What the hell, I'll switch my American Tail vote to Pinocchio. And I'll switch Shrek 2 to Fantasia. As long as it's not Wall-E. Fuck Wall-E.

Granted I haven't seen Pinocchio in I-don't-know-how-long, but while I liked it back in the day, nothing about it struck me as that memorable outside of one or two elements.

This pairing brought to you by epics:Director: David Lean Written by Robert Bolt, Michael Wilson Starring: Peter O'Toole, Alec Guiness, Omar Sharif, Anthony Quinn Genre: Historical Epic
#5 on 1998's AFI Top 100
Due to his knowledge of the native Bedouin tribes, British Lieutenant T.E. Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) is sent to Arabia to find Prince Faisal (Alec Guinness) and serve as a liaison between the Arabs and the British in their fight against the Turks. With the aid of native Sherif Ali (Omar Sharif), Lawrence rebels against the orders of his superior officer and strikes out on a daring camel journey across the harsh desert to attack a well-guarded Turkish port.
Trivia: The first time Peter O'Toole tried riding a camel, blood oozed from his jeans. "This is a very delicate Irish arse", he warned his instructor. He finally mastered his camel-riding technique by adding a layer of sponge rubber under the saddle to ease his bruised backside--a practical innovation quickly adopted by the actual Bedouin tribesmen acting as extras during the desert location filming. O'Toole was nicknamed "ab al-'Isfanjah" ("father of the sponge") by the Bedouin.
Director: Stanley Kubrick Written by Dalton Trumbo, Howard Fast Starring: Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier, Tony Curtis Genre: Historical Epic
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Poll Does not appear on the 1998 AFI list
The rebellious Thracian Spartacus, born and raised a slave, is sold to Gladiator trainer Batiatus. After weeks of being trained to kill for the arena, Spartacus turns on his owners and leads the other slaves in rebellion. As the rebels move from town to town, their numbers swell as escaped slaves join their ranks. Under the leadership of Spartacus, they make their way to southern Italy, where they will cross the sea and return to their homes.
Trivia: Kirk Douglas, a passionate Zionist, wanted the history depicted to parallel the story of the Jewish people. He clashed with openly Communist screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who was more interested in making this movie a commentary on the Cold War.
My votes:
Lawrence of Arabia: I'm not sure in what sense this movie can be considered "American". Is it because it was produced by Sam Spiegel? Keep, i guess. Some of the shots are fairly iconic. Spartacus: Eh, i'm kind of ambivalent on this one. Withholding my vote for now.

Down with most of the choices listed above if they get nominated. Would love to throw out Fantasia as well. Little Mermaid. My job here is done.

We need Lawrence on the list, but don't need Spartacus.
