Going to make my case for Stagecoach: The importance of this movie on the western genre is incalculable. Before this westerns were pretty much strictly B-movie fare often involving singing cowboys but Stagecoach in many ways legitimized the genre and essentially pioneered the adult action movie as we know it. It was also the film that solidified John Wayne as a star and created that John Ford/John Wayne/Monument Valley combo that would be prevalent in cinema for the next thirty years or so. From a pure filmmaking perspective the film was in many ways innovative. Orson Welles is said to have watched it forty times before making Citizen Kane and has some really next level stuntwork. We've voted out Shane, there's room for a replacement western and we voted out Grapes of Wrath so there's room for a new John Ford film, let's make it happen.

What's the argument for L.A. Confidential exactly? It's very well made and is a fine viewing experience but over time its importance has kind of diminished for me. It lives in the shadow of actual noirs, and the many neo-noirs that came before it and I'm not sure that it really brings anything all that new to the table or has influenced cinema in any lasting way. Also Russell Crowe being alive at the end is stupid. Great movie, don't get me wrong, but top 100? Not so sure about that.
I'm not dead set on blocking it or anything but the other two movies that are currently tied for second seem to have better arguments in my eyes (a landmark horror film and the continuing influence of Wes Anderson).

We have Stagecoach at first, and Exorcist/Tenenbaums/Confidential/Roger Rabbit/Heat all tied at second, which puts us two over 102 with 30 left to vote on.
