If PG Cooper votes for Running Man, I'll vote for it too.

Gonna briefly hijack the thread here to float an idea I've had for the past few days. With us forming a new/updated AFI Top 100 in this thread and thus debating on/voting in new additions, that got me to thinking...would there be any interest in an AFI Top 100 of the Past 25 Years thread, where we start from scratch to compile a list of more modern American and British films that we consider to be new/modern classics? I mentioned 25 years, but that number could fluctuate to 30 or 35 maybe, but the idea is too look at films made after a certain point, still using the American and British criteria that that the AFI themselves used on their lists.
As of now, this is just an idea, but one I certainly think has potential. Especially in our current quarantined lives, it'd be another fun way to pass some time. However, I don't even know where to begin in formulating/operating something like this, so if anybody has ideas/suggestions or would like to go in on/co-run it, we could either create a new thread to discuss or do so in PM's so as not to clutter this thread up too much.
What say y'all?

I'd be down for a list of that range thereabouts.

Could be cool, should probably table it until we're done with this though. Maybe just cap it to twenty years and call it the best of the 21st century.

Wouldn't want to steal skink's thunder here. But do we want to discuss any preliminary details on how it might be run or table that, too? Like I said, I'm not sure if I can run something like this myself, so there is a position open for a co-captain on this thing.

That's what I've been saying since day one. The AFI List, love it or dislike it, is very much "a boomer" list. Something that reflects millennial/"zoomer" tastes would be interesting. Although you could go beyond 1995. I'd go back to at least 1969 when Old Hollywood died and New Hollywood was born. Any modern list should have a healthy dose of 70's movies. But if you wanna do a Top 25 of the last 25 years type list, that would be cool too.

What if 1975 was the starting point? Post-Spielberg? I don't know. Maybe if it was strictly blockbusters. A blockbuster battle royale. But that seems like a list that donny would do. Probably better to do Top 25 of the last 25 years. Easier for you to run solo and you wouldn't have to wait for Skink to finish his AFI list.

Cause in my head, I was thinking of movies released from 1985 and on, but that would 35 instead of 25. Phantom, you idiot.
But say we started from 1990 to make it 30. That'd be another possibility. But I don't know if 30 sounds as sexy as 25.
Also, the initial idea was to somehow do it as a voting-based thing, like the voting rounds here. And compile the list that way. But again, details are still up in the air right now.

I like the idea of Top 25 for the last 25. It's a clean breaking point.

I don't know if 30 sounds as sexy as 25. It doesn't. You could set-up a March Madness type bracket. I think that's how donny does it. We just saw Terminator beat Raging Bull even though no one has voted Terminator into Skink's AFI list. The mindset seems to be different when you pit one specific movie against another specific movie. You could probably have 4 divisions. Have Dracula/ PG Cooper submit their 5 favorite snob movies. Have Doomsday/ SnoBorderZero submit their 5 favorite critically acclaimed/award-winning movies. Have Skink and donny submit their 5 favorite mainstream movies. 1godzillafan and I will submit our 5 favorite Wild Card selections. And you could threw in 5 random movies. Then just pit these 25 movies against each other until we have a winner.

So you're approaching it more as another Tournament, whereas I was thinking something more like this Reconsidered List where we'd all submit candidates, vote on them and the list would be made up of all the various winners. The only difference with thebtskink's list would be that there wouldn't be any Keep or Cut Rounds, since we'd be building a list from the ground up.
Personally, I might be leaning more towards the latter.

Since you have British films in yours, is Avengement eligible?

Was Avengement theatrically released? It's a VOD movie. Here are the preliminary rules:
- American and British movies.
- They have to have been released from 1995 to 2019.
- And received a theatrical release of some kind. So, Avengement - ineligible. The Irishman and Roma - eligible.

American and British movies. Why exclude the Australians and New Zealanders? Make it 2020 so we can include Sonic.

That means PG Cooper can't submit French Canadian movies. We don't need that disease in this tournament.
