I really don't like double indemnity, but I understand its importance.
Or do I? Hmm, maybe I shouldn't vote for it?

It's a great movie, and pioneered a lot of the things we think of as noir (the blinds, alley shadows), and the main three performances are really good.
I'm changing my ambivalent vote to an "in"

I don't think it's going to happen again. CBS probably isn't interested in airing the specials anymore, so there's no profit motive, also they are probably wary of causing a backlash if whatever list they compile isn't diverse enough for certain tastes so it's more likely to cause bad publicity for them than good publicity. That's frustrating but I suppose understandable. I always enjoyed those two lists but I don't hold them in too high of regard either. I mean, come on, no one actually thinks Sophie's Choice, Wuthering Heights, Yankee Doodle Dandy, etc. are among the 100 greatest American/British movies ever made. It's not the Sight and Sound list which carries major merit, despite it coming from a place as prestigious as AFI. But you're right, what's the incentive to do it if it won't be broadcast and will undoubtedly just stir up groaning from everyone no matter what goes on it?

Director: Frank Capra Written by Robert Riskin Starring: Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert Genre: Romantic Comedy, Screwball
In Frank Capra's acclaimed romantic comedy, spoiled heiress Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) impetuously marries the scheming King Westley, leading her tycoon father (Walter Connolly) to spirit her away on his yacht. After jumping ship, Ellie falls in with cynical newspaper reporter Peter Warne (Clark Gable), who offers to help her reunite with her new husband in exchange for an exclusive story. But during their travels, the reporter finds himself falling for the feisty young heiress.
Director: William Wyler Written by Karl Tunberg Starring: Charlton Heston, Jack Hawkins Genre: Epic
Epic drama about an aristocratic Jew living in Judaea who incurs the wrath of a childhood friend, now a Roman tribune. Although forced into slavery on a galley and compelled to witness the cruel persecution of his family, he survives, harbouring dreams of vengeance. A battle at sea and a chariot race are among the memorable sequences. The film used 300 sets at Rome's Cinecitta Studios and won a record 11 Oscars.

My votes It Happened One Night: keep Ben-Hur: cut To those that would cut It Happened One Night, why are you leaning that way? There are better screwball comedies and better romantic comedies and it just generally isn't a favorite of mine. Not a bad film by any means, but I can think of a hundred better movies.

One Night is sound era hollywood getting its %^&* together. The Thin Man and It's a Gift came out the same year, King Kong and Duck Soup came out the year before. Other notable sound era Hollywood films of the same period included The Scarlet Empress, Cleopatra, Trouble in Paradise, and 42nd Street. They were well on their way without One Night, which is in many ways a tamer and more bland version of what they had been doing in the pre-code era.
