Those three winners will stand. Gold Rush set will stay up for a bit, currently at a tie I think.

In case it's not clear, I vote Gold Rush to stay.

This pairing brought to you by 70s movies that skimp on spectacle in favor of story:
Director: Sidney Lumet Written by Paddy Chayefsky Starring: Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Peter Fince Genre: Drama
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #66 on 1998's AFI Top 100
In this lauded satire, veteran news anchorman Howard Beale (Peter Finch) discovers that he's being put out to pasture, and he's none too happy about it. After threatening to shoot himself on live television, instead he launches into an angry televised rant, which turns out to be a huge ratings boost for the UBS network. This stunt allows ambitious producer Diana Christensen (Faye Dunaway) to develop even more outrageous programming, a concept that she takes to unsettling extremes. Trivia: Beatrice Straight is only on-screen for five minutes and two seconds. Hers was the briefest performance ever to win an Oscar.
Director: Peter Bogdanovich Written by Peter Bogdanovich and Larry McMurtry, based on a novel by Larry McMurtry Starring: Timothy Bottoms, Jeff Bridges, Cybill Shepherd, Cloris Leachman Genre: Drama, Romance, Coming of Age
#91 on 2012's Sight and Sound Directors' Poll, does not appear on the Critics' Poll Does not appear on the 1998 AFI list
High school seniors and best friends, Sonny (Timothy Bottoms) and Duane (Jeff Bridges), live in a dying Texas town. The handsome Duane is dating local beauty, Jacy (Cybill Shepherd), while Sonny is having an affair with the coach's wife, Ruth (Cloris Leachman). As graduation nears, both boys contemplate their futures. While Duane eyes the army and Sonny takes over a local business, each boy struggles to figure out if he can escape this dead-end town and build a better life somewhere else.
Trivia: At 9 minutes and 54 seconds, Ben Johnson's performance in this movie is the shortest to ever win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
My votes:
Network: Cut. It's ranty in all the wrong ways. You see the genesis of Sorkin's dreadful TV work here. I'd honestly rather have Nightcrawler or Broadcast News on the list.
The Last Picture Show: Keep, Cybil Shepherd and Cloris Leachman are fantastic in this movie, and it's a great representative of coming-of-age stories for the list.

I say keep Network. I don't love it, but there's a lot going on there, and it certainly speaks to an ongoing problem in American society. Mad as Hell is pretty iconic as well.
Cut Picture Show. Who needs it?

Cut Picture Show. Who needs it? I do. It's fantastic and I don't think anyone will be willing to come with me in getting Paper Moon on here so this is the Bogdanovich we get.

You don’t need Bogdanovich on the AFI list. Need to make room for more important directors like your French-Canadian pal Denis Villeneuve.

Is it time yet? I nominate Bride of Frankenstein, remove Dark Knight from the list and replace it with Paper Moon.

The Last Picture Show: Cut The Newsroom deserved a much quicker death than it got, and the best seasons of The West Wing were the ones Sorkin wasnt involved in. A Few Good Men, Malice, and Moneyball are great though.

A Few Good Men, Malice, and Moneyball are great though. The West Wing is great all the way through and The Newsroom is hands down one of my top five TV shows of the past decade. The first season especially I’d have to single out as one of my favorite seasons of television ever. And, The American President is probably my favorite romantic comedy ever.
