Yes, someone on here other than 1godzillafan has seen this movie now.
One thing I pride myself on is being as completely honest about my opinions on movies as possible. So, on that note, I didn't think Bloodshot was terrible. Don't take that to mean I'm calling it a good movie in any way -- cause I'm not -- but the movie just struck me as a typical mediocre action flick more than it did as anything resembling a trainwreck.
Where I give this movie the most credit is in its premise, and specifically how the first half is structured. The idea behind the story is actually pretty interesting and contains quite a bit of potential if it's in a script that could tap into said potential. But as you can expect, the script for this movie as it is only barely scratches the surface in terms of exploring some of the implications inherent in its sci-fi elements. However, I'd be lying if I said the first half of the film didn't have me somewhat entertained by what I was seeing, and the way in which it drops us into the story. Watching these initial 45-50 minutes, I thought it had sort of a throwback feel to these sorts of movies you would see in the 80's and 90's, then the second half made me realize how much I wish this movie DID come out then, and that it was directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bloodshot takes some inspiration from movies like Total Recall, but it's one that feels like it's made by people only talented enough to make movies like the 2012 Total Recall remake. What this movie needed was at least a couple more passes at the script...and not a first-time director. The issue of the lead is up in the air, cause Vin Diesel at least seems like he's putting in effort here, but maybe a more experienced director could've helped honed his performance better. Or I don't know, maybe just put someone with more charisma in there.
I was expecting worse from Bloodshot, but the mere fact that it shows any promise or at least attempt at effort is something of a pleasant surprise to begin with. But it soon becomes the type of mediocre, forgettable action vehicle we're all too used to seeing.
