Agreed that the trailer wasn't good but the movie itself looks solid.
Already I can tell the narrative is going to swallow itself up over trying to tackle more than it can thematically and stretch itself over attempting to cover too much historical context, a common issue with a lot of Spike's work. But I like the premise and the energy he's bringing with it so I'll definitely give it a watch.

Did anyone else see Miracle at St. Anna? I remember kinda looking forward to it until I heard it was a turd. The best thing to come out of it was the Spike Lee/Clint Eastwood mini-feud.

Hopefully he's learned from that.
Also his feud with Eastwood was stupid. Wasn't he mad that there weren't black people in Flags of our Fathers? Spike, dude, regiments were segregated in those times. He's not being racist he's being historically accurate. And then the response was Miracle at St. Anna...

I think the only stipulation is that there must have been an "intent" to show it in theatres. It can't be a straight-up TV Movie. So this could very well be our first "Oscar movie" of the year. |

Agreed, I mean what else is serious competition for it at this point?
And we also know that the Oscars are never shy about jumping on a movie that gives them good optics and shows they're with the times (even though we know that's largely not the case, hence Green Book winning two years ago). We've got a long way to go, but in the wacky year of 2020 not having anything of substance released yet and with the protests as polarizing as they are, Spike might finally get that Best Picture winner. MIGHT.
