my ideal idea for a new movie would be one that retcons the 5th and has Elizabeth going off on her own mission to break Will's Flying Dutchman curse about 3-5 years after the events of At World's End, aka what the 5th one SHOULD have been about instead of Will Jr., but there's no chance in hell of that happening. Just combine both projects. Karen Gillian and Will Jr are in love, but Will Jr also really wants to bang Margot Robbie. Soft reboot the thing with Robbie as Jackie Sparrow and Karen Gillian as Wilma Turner. Write the script. Doomsday will give it to Bob Iger.

No joke, I DO have a plot idea for a female-led pirate fantasy action/adventure that I've been developing as a possible novel. Could easily be tweaked to fit this universe.

It's such an odd decision. In a time where Disney's biggest IPs are losing steam, Marvel, Star Wars, Indiana Jones becoming one of the biggest box office busts ever, even princess movies like Wish getting more or less ignored, you'd think they would start hedging their bets with their $200 million tentpoles even more than they've tried to. Pirates of the Caribbean I felt wore out its welcome after the 5th one but that was already 7 years ago. Would people rush to see Johnny Depp again as Jack Sparrow? I don't know but I'm pretty sure that would be a bigger draw than whatever they're planning now. Johnny Depp is as tied to this franchise as Harrison Ford is to Indy and to think they can just make new characters and build some new 'Pirates universe' thinking everyone will be chomping at the bit to watch it...I just don't see that happening.
Unless this is all a big ruse where they announce a movie without the principle actor, let people stew over it then bring him back and make everyone excited again. I doubt that's the case but it would be a better idea than what they've got now.
