I've always had a very personal connection with The Seventh Seal, as it's the film that when I viewed a short time after joining these boards opened my eyes to the possibilities of cinema. They're not just entertainment, they're art forms in the most exquisite sense. Many will remember him for his Hollywood work, from The Exorcist to Flash Gordon to Minority Report to Game of Thrones. But I'll always think of his many collaborations with my favorite director, Ingmar Bergman, and his profound impact on shaping cinema forever. This gets thrown around a lot, but today we truly lost a legend in our field. Thank you, Mr. Sydow, for everything.

True legend. One of the best of all-time and with a widespread legacy of amazing work.

RIP to the guy who's been 90 for the past 40 years. I had the pleasure of seeing him speak live at a Seventh Seal/Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close double bill making it the most uneven double bill of all time. He was a great one for sure.

RIP to a legend who, even in the lesser entries on his resume, always brought gravitas to the screen.

RIP to a legend who, even in the lesser entries on his resume, always brought gravitas to the screen. This is so true. He never compromised his performances and set an example for everyone else to follow, even when the material itself could be deemed as mediocre and thus mediocre work was acceptable.

I was today years old when I learned that Von Sydow voiced Vigo the Carpathian in Ghostbusters 2.
This guy's resume must be up there with the best of the best. I will now retire to my quarters to re-enjoy his finest hour as Ming the Merciless.
