This weekend, I'm attending Wizard World Tulsa. A considerably smaller convention, I know, but its also my first Con.
Those of you that have been to a comic con or similar event, what are some tips, tricks, stalking techniques, etc, that I can utilize to enhance my enjoyment, and keep myself from getting arrested? |

1. Wash your hands. A lot. Your wife is pregnant, so I'm being serious.
2. Be prepared to play Sophie's Choice. You'll NEVER see everything you wanna see.
3. Don't stress out about "doing things" and just enjoy the moment.
4. You're gonna ignore suggestion #3.

My only experience with a Con was about 4 years ago. I went on a 2 day tuna fishing trip out of San Diego and got back right when the San Diego Comicon was in full swing. My cousins and I walked into an In-N-Out Burger wearing clothes that were covered in blood from the albacore. Inside were a bunch of people dressed like superheroes naturally. Before we left someone came up to us asking 'so we were all wondering what you guys are supposed to be' thinking we were characters from something.

Focus on the few things you REALLY want to see or do (Read: I will be devastated if I miss this panel/ don't see this person, etc.) and plan your day around that. No joke about the washing hands. Do it often. Bring snacks and drink plenty of water. Think of it like hiking. Try to pack light though there's usually a coat check. Never underestimate artist alley. It tends to be less crowded and you actually get to talk with them. Be flexible. Not everything will work out as smoothly as you think it might. In regards to cosplayers, though its unlikely they'll decline, it's always polite if you ask before taking pictures. And if you want a specific pose (like a Vader death grip or a ninja stance, whatever it may be) please let them know. They're usually happy to oblige. Cliche but....have fun! It's your tribe.  |

Yeah concentrate on the "cannot miss" things - if you can't get into the chosen event - there's always a smaller event that will catch your interest.
Keep your money in a safe place, one wrong *bump* "Ooops terribly sorry, dude." and you could lose it.
If you plan on buying collectables - look them over carefully - nothing worse than feeling rushed and getting something home to find out it was not such a spiffy deal after all
Most of all - relax, and don't forget to have fun and take it all in.

It was a blast. Saw Shatner. He was great. Also, I met Neal Adams. Didn't get to see as many panels as I would've liked, my friends were too busy shopping the booths. I had an extremely limited budget, so substantial shopping was pretty much out of the question. I should've ventured off and did my own thing, but I didn't want to do them by myself.

Sweet! Yeah the down side of a group is everyone wanting to do different things. It's fun to see the merch at the booths though, even you can't really afford that $400 Berserk Statue....one day.  |
