I have no idea why anyone buys anything at Sundance for that kind of money. 9 out of 10 times those big acquisitions flame out in the real world. Outside of Get Out (which already had distribution going into Sundance) and The Blair Witch Project (which was quite the fluke) the most money any Sundance movie has ever made was $59 million for Little Miss Sunshine, and that was over a decade ago.

That was acquired by Neon before it was even finished and then premiered at Cannes. It wasn't some bullshit that got "buzz" because a bunch of critics high on mountain air finally watched a fun movie after seeing a dozen indies that won't see the light of day. |
