Bull. If I'm in a Star Trek thread and were discussing why the movies or TV shows did or did not work. I will rely my opinion.. I stand by my case that the reboots worked. Sure "Into Darkness" wasn't as good as the prequel, but that's because it didn't get executed as well. I can call that out. But I'm in firm belief that T1 and T2 are film classics, and T2 specially deserves to be in 100 greatest films ever made. No one is denying T1 and T2 are classics. But if retconning Star Trek is allowed so is this. In fact, I will say it makes more sense to do it here because the core element of the movie is focused on time travel and how polluted the timeline can get. But don't you dare tell me Star Trek lacks legendary status. I will eat you alive.

Besides... like I said before... T3, Salvation and The Sarah Conner Chronicles exist. This movie is doing no harm whatsoever. The harm was already done 11 years ago.

You can say that about Star Trek as well after "Enterprise" screwed up the entire time-line, especially if you watch the series finale with Riker and Troi.
Damage was done way before Abrams showed up, if you think what he did was bad. If anything he was trying to get Star Trek back on track.

Rational people already know that The Next Generation movies fucked everything up. Abrams saved the movie franchise.

Getting it back on track by changing every element that made it what it was. Got it.

Since when did Star Trek not have wonderful scifi space battles and stories.
Nero coming and re-introducing these wonderful characters was changing elements?
In fact what Abrahms did was make people love these characters and why the original series was so be-loved in the first place.

There aren't many space battles in the original series though. Most every episode ends in diplomacy. Look at the episode where Khan is first featured.

Since when did Terminator not gave us Sarah Conner kicking ass and Arnold spouting one liners with high adrenline action sequences? Reintroducting us to beloved characters in a new timeline reminding us of why this franchise became so iconic in the first place?

They better have the familiar theme song in this as well. This does look like they are trying to put the best parts of T1 and T2 in this movie. If they do it right...well then I'm a fan.

Getting it back on track by changing every element that made it what it was. Got it. overreaction much. The argument of whether or not it's legendary status is stupid as Star Trek is 10 times the legend that the Terminator franchise is, but even YOU have to admit that Berman was the bombshell that drove Star Trek out for awhile. I am always curious for repeated naysayers where they would have taken the series. Clearly they long for what was, while acknowledging that the same thing they long for wasn't working (TNG movies and Berman). So... where do you take the franchise to reinvigorate it then? How would it look? And if anyone says The Next Generation __________, just give yourself an epic fail and don't bother. Shatner, Nimoy and crew weren't going to be possible (RIP Doohan), and they had to do something to reinsert drama, otherwise the outcomes were known. Granted, Orci and Kurtzman movies always feel a little shallow; but there were many elements to these reboots to be excited about passing the torch such as the cast and reinvigorated life of the franchise. There is great hope for Star Trek and the future where Berman almost destroyed that (would love to see a T1000 sent back in time for him). Maybe you didn't like everything about the movies per se (or much at all) but at least Star Trek now lives and gives us hope again for future good movies. Be happy about that at least.

Unfortunately, the conversation is simply on hold until either later, or another thread where it will resurface. You and I both know that.

That is true, CS conversations usually end on their own volition. Or, they're merely catalogued and transformed into passive-aggressive attacks.

In most cases, they're brought up again in some random thread where both parties are in disagreement over a rating for a movie. There should be a field in psychoanalysis that dedicates their time to CS arguments.

It would be fascinating, at least people on here have reasoning to justify their arguments. I can't stand IMDB, it's just a bunch of "Boyhood is overrated, nothing happened!" "I'm going to give 'The Godfather' a 1 so it'll be lower than 'The Dark Knight'!" For every knowledgeable poster on there there's 100 idiots that even I can't argue with enough without being exasperated by the futility.
