I am going to try and do with directors and attempt to do the same with Actors/Actresses. I plan on picking someone whose work I have fully seen this decade. In the event where I haven't and still feel compelled to pick said Actor, I will let it be know which performances I have yet to see. For our first choice, we do not have to worry about this. My first pick will be Leonardo DiCaprio. Mr. DiCaprio has appeared in 8 films this decade and worked with 6 directors. Of those 6, he's worked with 2 of them on multiple occasions (Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese). DiCaprio is one of the last remaining movie stars, one whose name is enough to sell tickets. With his combination of looks and talent, DiCaprio is known to be very picky when choosing projects, and for the most part, based off the list below, he's had mostly success. DiCaprio has played 3 real people this decade and has been nominated for 3 Oscars, including 1 win. Leo is someone who, if he were in the 1960's, would have fit right in with the Rat Pack. Similarly, had he existed in the 40's-50's, he would have been right there with Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant, working along Alfred Hitchcock as part of a stable of reliable leading men. I guess we'll just have to settle for the Pussy Posse. A Decade With DiCaprio 1. Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)- It certainly feels a bit weird to make this #1, knowing who Jordan Belfort is in real life. Since it's release, there has been much discourse around this film, notably about whether or not Scorsese and DiCaprio are glamorizing the lifestyle of Wall Street and Belfort, not to dissimilar to talk surrounding the mob lifestyle with films like Goodfellas or Casino. But I think that's oversimplifying the issue here. DiCaprio and Scorsese are far too smart for that, and they are pretty convincing when it comes to making Belfort a scummy, sleazy person out for himself. The character of Belfort might be a little straightforward than some of Leo's other roles. There is no real grey area with Belfort, but nonetheless, Leo utilizes all of his energy and charisma to this guy. Whether it's his dance moves at the wedding, or "I'm Not Leaving", or the infamous Quaalude meltdown, DiCaprio brings it all. He brings such an effortless approach to this that few Actors can provide. It's also important that someone look the role for the part of a Wall Street worker, and between the fast cars, attractive women and expensive cars, Leo looks the part, for better or worse, and that's why he's the movie star he is. Maybe the fact that he can so easily portray a slimy person might not reflect so well on him in real life, but that's not what I'm here for. We can debate the merits or intentions of The Wolf of Wall Street all we want, but that doesn't stop it from existing or the performance crafted by DiCaprio.
2. Rick Dalton in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)- Nearly 5 years removed from his last film and Oscar win for The Revenant, DiCaprio returns from his longest hiatus yet. This is also the most recent entry on the list. Maybe when I give this more time, this performance will drop in favor of something else, but for now it's #2. I think what sticks with me the most about Rick is how different he is from DiCaprio's other roles. We are often used to, especially in this decade, seeing him take on the roles of violent men, bordering on brooding behavior. A common theme we will see is how often he deals with guilt at the loss of a wife or child, and in some cases, both. That's not happening here. In a lot of ways with Rick, what we see is what we get. He wants to be an Actor, a good one at that, and maybe even famous. He wants to be remembered. Feeling like time has passed him by and that his best opportunities are behind him, there is a profound level of sadness and innocence with Rick that we don't often see with DiCaprio. At the very least, the sadness is different than say, The Revenant. Sure, by the end of this film, Rick is apart of some rather questionable decision making, but I would argue that's more a result of a product of ones environment. And sure, he may hate hippies, but you don't get the sense he wants to cause any harm. By adding little touches of humor and weirdness, DiCaprio creates a fully fleshed, memorable character and performance. He closes out the decade on a high note. It is nice to see him play around with a more fun, less serious character for once. His interactions with his 8 year old co-star and trailer meltdown are some highlights of this film. 3. Edward "Teddy" Daniels in Shutter Island (2010)- When I set out to make this last, I wasn't anticipating this to be in the top 3, yet here we are. Not a bad look for Marty Scorsese either. As alluded to earlier, Teddy Daniels is one of those characters Leo plays that is plagued by a deep. In this, we come to see he loses both wife and children, and I happen to think this is the best one. Once again, Leo returns to the big screen after a 2 year hiatus, his first performance since 2008's Revolutionary Road, and his firs Scorsese collaboration since 2006's The Departed. As Daniels, Leo skillfully plays an unreliable detective traveling by way of boat to a psych ward on a remote island, near Boston. The film is a psychological thriller, and there are a few twists and turns along the way, as a result you never get a clear sense if what Teddy is saying or doing matters at all. In the time since it's release, Shutter Island seems to be viewed as more of a B-side for Scorsese and DiCaprio, and I don't mean just their collaborations. It's a shame it's a bit overlooked, as this a very strong performance from DiCaprio, good enough or #3 this decade. 4. Hugh Glass in The Revenant (2015)- The Oscar winning performance. The raw bison liver performance. The Iñárritu/DiCaprio experience. There are a lot of different ways you can look at this film, but regardless, it's one that I admire. He may be outshined by Tom Hardy anytime he is on screen, and he may not have a whole lot of dialogue to work with, but Leo more than makes up for it by physically and emotionally being put in a blender. This is the second time we see DiCaprio dealing with loss, as his character deal with the death of his sons and visions of his also dead wife (Shocker). Whether it's surviving a bear attack or the treacherous terrain he must navigate, Glass is put through the ringer and by the end of it, all you're just happy for him that it's over. One way I view this film is that for better part of the story, Hugh Glass is in purgatory, and only until after he defeats Tom Hardy will he pas s on to the next life. I don't know if this is the intention of the film or not, but I do know that Hugh Glass is a man in search of peace and quiet, and the grueling journey he went on is more than enough for me. 5. Calvin J. Candie in Django Unchained (2012)- The second film of the Tarantino/DiCaprio collaborations to show up on the list. This is the first time where DiCaprio worked with Tarantino, and like most of the Tarantino outings, this is not one I will forget any time soon. Rumored to have been courting Leo for Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino finally got his man. I have sort of mixed feelings on the whole for Django, and I don't like it nearly as much as I like Once Upon a Time, but due to the subject matter, and Leo's performance, this is elevated to the upper tier of performances. It is fun to see him take on Candie, as this is one of the rare occasions where we see him take on the role of a villain. As we see a year later with #1's Wolf of Wall Street, DiCaprio is taking on the role of a not so good person, but as the role of a slave owner, he's more inherently evil compared to Belfort in Wolf. He can tend to be a bit over the top in his acting here, and again, I don't fully love this flick, so as result, Calvin Candie suffers a bit on this list. Lastly, I was really surprised to see he wasn't nominated for an Oscar with this. Not necessarily because I think he deserved one, but because I was so convinced that he did get one. I lied to myself this whole damn time.6. Dom Cobb in Inception (2010)- The second Leo film of 2010, with both characters in some capacity dealing with the loss of a loved one. Shutter Island deals with those themes a little more in depth, which is why these respective performances are ranked where they are. However, if you read my rankings from yesterday, you know how I feel about Inception. It's just that I think with Leo's performance, it's more of The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts situation. Leo is fine here, and he helps bring the movie along. Because he is so naturally good, you care enough about his character and whether or not he achieves his goals. And while there is enough depth to his character to be satisfied with, it's just not as meaty as the top 4-5.I will say, I love how committed he is to making sure he gets home to his family. He doesn't really care about the other characters, as long as they help him get back. It's kind of selfish. I love Leo and I love this movie, but sometime's life is hard. But hey, maybe I'm dreaming, and maybe when I wake up this movie will magically be moved to #1, but until then, it's #6. But hey, look on the bright side, at least its not...7. Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby (2013)- A performance that is undone by endless visual effects, elaborate production designs, and questionable musical choices. This is probably the weirdest role of all the ones on here for DiCaprio, maybe even for his career. It doesn't really seem to mesh with the rest of his roles. Maybe he chose it because one of his best friends was a co-star, maybe he felt he owed Baz Luhrmann for one his earliest successes with 1996's Romeo and Juliet, or maybe he just felt like doing it. Money could have played a factor as well. Regardless, the end result is a mixed bag for this classic story, and while the character of Jay Gatsby may be quite mysterious and interesting for one to sink their teeth in, that's more because the source material than anything else. Leo does his best, but I saw 1.5 times and that was more than enough. 8. J. Edgar Hoover in J. Edgar (2011) - Meh. I saw this once when it first came out, and I haven't thought much about it since. Leo is fine in this, but again, the movie is a bit uneven, and not that all memorable. As a result, this film takes quite the stumble on the list.Looking Ahead
Short of going back in time to work with Hitchcock or Kubrick, I hope to see Leo continue to work with directors with distinct voices, who help bring out the best performances. If there is a theme in his best work, it's that DiCaprio is working with elite film makers near the top of their game. He was rumored to be on the short list for Paul Thomas Anderson's next feature, before deciding to join Guillermo Del Toro, before deciding to part ways with Del Toro. He is supposed to be working with Scorese again on Killers of the Flower moon, but beyond that, I hope he continues to make smart decisions with directors of that level.

2. Wonder Woman
I feel like this may go down as a superhero classic. It has the elements: great protagonist, strong motivation which says something about heroism, an iconic look and an iconic scene (no-mans land). I appreciate it more every time I see it.
1. Avengers Endgame
The most financially successful movie of all time, built on the backs of 20 other films. Its a ridiculous smorgasbord of Marvelly action, but its also a pretty solid story, especially in the first half. The world is dealing with the "snap", and thinks are looking bleak. But a ray of hope brings the team back together and then things really get rolling. They really nailed this one. I was very impressed. In a year of big franchises letting us down with their endings, MCU did anything but.

9 am on the east coast let's get this thing going....
Top Ten Best Buddy Cop Flicks of the Decade
7. RIPD - carried by it's two leads, and even bridges goes a bit insane with the amount of ham he was asked to add. Pretty bad script, meh bad guy (but shout out to bacon come back to film - tv hates you) but these leads ooze charisma.
6. CHiPS - full disclosure I absolutely hate dax Shepherd and his wife, no clue why they have had a resurgence in popularity.... But come on Michael Peña is Likable in eveythting. They need to put him on the Scientology videos... Shit I'd join. His eating ass jokes are a highlight in the beginning as the movie let's you know right off the bat what you're getting. Forgettable final half hour but pleasant enough first hour.
5. Ride Along - I've watched this thing on TNT at my parents a half dozen times and it still makes me laugh. Cube and Hart have solid chemistry even if cube still kinda sucks at comedy, but this one's way better than cia which should have dominates this list but couldn't bring it all together. Genuinely funny moments with some half decent action.

Michael Peña is Likable in eveythting. Having seen the awful lines he tried to make work in Jexi, I wouldn't say he's likeable in that movie but I did feel sorry for the guy.
