I love Road Warrior a lot (just rewatched it) but Fury Road is some next level shit. Until the Mad Max of Fury Road rocks an adjustable spanner attached to the outside of his single-sleeved leather jacket, there's no comparison to be made.

Drac's not even gonna finish his list by his deadline. I have the luxury of quietly tallying my ballot before it has been publicly revealed.

Top ten time, baby! 10. Blue ValentineBecause while it took time to get over the sheer bleakness of it all, Blue Valentine is gut-wrenching cinema brought to life with excellent performances and a rather brilliant narrative structure which continuously pays off in unexpected ways.

I actually watched Blue Valentine for the first time a couple months ago. Yeah, it's a hard but good, good watch.

Because the continual evolution of this series over the years is arguably the most comprehensive look at romance over put on film I applaud Richard Linklater's ambition (I hear they're making a new one) but these movies are way too waspy. There's certainly movies that tackle relationships a lot more relatably. I mean, shit, with the Corona, I'm sure there's hundreds of households turning into Virginia Wolf.

There's certainly movies that tackle relationships a lot more relatably. I mean, shit, with the Corona, I'm sure there's hundreds of households turning into Virginia Wolf. It certainly reflects a very privileged perspective that's not available to many. I'm more referring to the emotions of the characters and how, over time, the trilogy has been able to capture how that romance has changed based on age and experience. Before Midnight is the most critical in this regard, as it asks what if that love isn't enough anymore? What if they don't love each other at all at this point? If they do, does that mean its healthy to be together? Or are both overreacting to what is ultimately a pretty simple conflict?

8. Manchester by the SeaBecause despite the inherent heaviness of this blunt exploration of grief, Manchester by the Sea is also impeccably made and acted drama that I didn't want to see end.

6. Inside Llewyn DavisBecause the Coens manage to make a simple character study over a few days feel a momentous journey where nothing really changes, and yet everything changes.
