BATMAN (1966)When PG Cooper returns home for Canadian Thanksgiving (I believe they eat moose instead of Turkey), he’ll binge Batman: The Animated Series on blu-ray, a show made when he was still in his daddy’s nutsack. He only understands a world of Christopher Nolan’s and Zack Snyder’s. We already had our Thanksgiving. Also, back in the late 90s there was this thing called home video, so I was able to watch the series even though it ended a year after I was born. This set in particular:

Oh Jesus. I used to watch so many of those Disney VHS tapes.
But I upgraded to the Treasures DVDs long ago.

This year I am thankful for Swingers (1996). Without it, Jon Favreau wouldn’t be famous. Without Favreau there would be no MCU. Without Favreau, Doomsday would be working on Geostorm 2 right now. But most importantly, without Favreau, there would be no Baby Yoda.

I'll do it for the minimum, just to work on such a landmark.

And then we'll move right into Pluto Nash 2 after that. Nah. You gotta re-do Downey’s Dr Dolittle with a proper Eddie Murphy version.

I'd say Nick Nolte could use the work, but his role in The Mandalorian confirms he's finally found his career calling.

As much as I like that first Beverly Hills Cop movie, I'd actually much rather have a 48 Hours 3 than a Beverly Hills Cop 4.

I'm pitching them to act like Beverly Hills Cop III never existed. I want them to call it Beverly Hills Cop: Dark Fate, I think it'll turn out great!

BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC (2020) I grew up an admirer of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey but have always felt that Bill and Ted's Big Adventure is incredibly mediocre and super overrated. It should come as no surprise that I rank Bill and Ted Face the Music as the second best in the trilogy. What might raise some eyebrows is going beyond that and declaring Face the Music as one of the year's best movies. And yes, 2020 has a giant asterisk on it, but even in a regular year in which all movies get released, Face the Music would standout. 2020 is still an election year and a very emotionally draining one, so to have a movie such as Face the Music is our lives is very valuable. The story picks up 25 years after the events in Bogus Journey. Bill and Ted have failed in their destiny to unite the world with their music. That has taken a toll on their lives and their families, and so, they travel to the future to visit their future selves and hope that one of them has accomplished their goal. Meanwhile, their daughters are doing their own time traveling and gathering up famous musicians across history to form a band. Today is Sunday and this Tuesday is Election Day. Tensions across the nation are rising as I type this sentence. Watching the ending to Face the Music warmed my heart. This is the type of good-natured entertainment we need right now. And hopefully it inspires people to come together for once. If 2020 could end with a kumbaya that would be the best possible ending to this awful year.

THE UNTOUCHABLES (1987)We lost Ennio Morricone AND Sean Connery this year. Someone keep an eye on Brian De Palma. I can’t handle another loss right now. The Untouchables stars Connery, Kevin Costner, Andy Garcia and Charles Martin Smith as the men who defunded the police and took down Donald Trump for tax evasion. True Patriots. Film could have been trimmed a bit and the script should gone through another draft to iron out the story a little better and improve some of the character’s logic. But — it’s still a lot of fun and there’s loads of iconic moments. The baby carriage scene is a masterclass by De Palma. Connery is great. Robert De Niro as Al Capone is great. Music is great. The Untouchables is a bonafide classic, even if it’s a little rough around the edges.

It definitely has problems but it's incredibly well-made and that cast is just so much fun. While Mamet's script is pretty wack in terms of story beats, the dialogue is also really good.
