I liked a lot about the film. I think it might win an Oscar for cinematography - the green tinting of scenes was pretty interesting, also watching this I was getting annoyed with the pace but it all added up. Phoenix did a really creepy descent into madness. I wouldn't rent it twice. though.

I still haven't seen it. I'm glad I've read some conflicting things said here, because I've heard nothing but good things from everyone else. It's making me worried it can't possibly live up to the hype now. More so with all the awards buzz surrounding it.

Gave it a rewatch this weekend... It's not perfect or anything but it remains pretty watchable. Ends well. Isn't easy to watch. I empathize with Arthur to a certain degree, mainly only because his mom sucks and he never really had a chance anyway.
Prob not an 8 but close enough. Still worth a watch.

Dumb. There were rumors that Todd Phillips was planning to make similar dark revisionist movies about other Batman villains, which strikes me as a much smarter way to turn that thing into a franchise that just regular sequels. |
