Glad you like it. The stares haunted me for days. I had seen this poster for years and had no idea the figure was supposed to be a fifteen year old. He looks and feels so very old by film's end.

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969)
Before now, my only experience with The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes was the 1995 TV remake starring Kirk Cameron and directed by future Ant-Man director Peyton Reed. Watching this original starring young Kurt Russell and the original Joker, Caesar Romero, certain scenes jogged my memory of that one, like Russell's character finishing a multi-page math test meant to take a few hours in just five minutes and then loudly snacking as everybody else finishes. Now, this movie is clearly of a certain time, meaning the tone can get pretty screwball, and I went in pretty much expecting that. However...taken on its own, the movie just isn't very interesting. It goes about the way you'd expect it to go: college guy's brain turns into a computer by way of holding parts of one while being electrocuted and he's made the star of his college by competing in a national competition for grant money. Of course, Kurt Russell shows here that he already had that innate on-screen charm and presence, so he naturally works as the lead. Also Caesar Romero is fun as the villain. But...here's where things get weird. In a movie called The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, the strangest plot point is the fact that Romero, who's playing a wealthy businessman/benefactor, is secretly the head of a gambling ring whose computer ends up in the head of the main character. Okay, then. This leads to him and his goons coming after Dexter (Russell) once they start to fear Dexter will inadvertently reveal their gambling information, leading to a wacky climax. That's pretty much the main problem here: two different plot threads that feel mashed together. Did this movie NEED a crime subplot? I think this movie could've worked just fine if they'd focused on/developed just Dexter's storyline, but adding in the gambling angle just makes it overly silly by the end, complete with the bad guys getting covered in paint. This isn't a movie worth getting mad at or anything, but still one to sort of bemoan for going down the route that it does.

Persona I'm struggling to come to terms with what I just saw. Wonderous cinematography, and fantastic staging help you accentuate an all-time annoying performance from Bibi Andersson and all-time phone in from Liv Ullmann. I assume the performances were directed in this fashion, and to me it would seem the most obvious takeaway is an ID vs Ego interpretation of woman/motherhood. The lighting techniques are quite striking, and the beach scene where Alma chase's Elisabet will stick with me for some time. I don't understand how this has made Sight and Sound, but it's solid. B+ Also, fuck you Neverending for making me expect undelivered penis.

Hmmm, there's definitely a penis in Persona. At the very beginning. You didn't watch it on TBS did you?

Oh crap, this is due today? I was thinking three weeks for some reason.
Watched my flick last week, will try to have my review up in a day or so because, well, work and kids (my go-to excuse).
