It would probably be fun to join this. Though I doubt I'd be able to come up with a decent list of films you guys have never seen for the life of me. And if I were to, I'd probably get kicked out of the thread because they'd be schlock. If you want in you can have my spot. I still owe Drac a review (it's coming in the next couple days) but I don't want to drag my next partner out when I'm super busy at the moment. Just say the word and I'll sub you in. Just try to make the movies at least watchable, available and somewhat within the confines of your partners' taste.

I don't use lube. If I were to put together a list of films off the top of my head that most of you probably haven't seen, unclench those cheeks because you're going to get the anal pounding of your life. Oh yes, it WILL hurt. Like Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie level soreness.
It's my primary concern about jumping in on this, because once I get a partner like Dracula his wheelhouse is so far outside my own that I know that if I've seen anything from that area that he would likely enjoy then he's probably already seen it.
Though it would help know what areas other posters aren't familiar with that I might be able to pull something out from my own personal experience. I myself am always interested in seeing more golden age Hollywood films. 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. I've seen a lot of the more important ones, though I'm always looking for suggestions. Bonus points if they have Jimmy Stewart or Audrey Hepburn.
So what areas is everyone interested in dipping their toes in? I can see if I can pull something out of my hat.

I'll pretty well watch anything. Though a note regarding "so bad it's good" movies...I generally don't watch these by myself. I do have a thing though for what I'd call "so bad they're fascinating" movies. Like, I recently watched Freddy Got Fingered, and yeah, the movie is shit, but trying to understand the thought process behind some of the decisions was compelling. So, all that to say, if you are gonna throw me some bad movie recommendations, interesting choices are more important to me than funny ones.

Finding ones that may maintain interest throughout could be tricky though. I just watched Bride and the Beast for the first time for my blog, and boy the bestiality undertones of that first act are something and I was intigued by the thought process of the film for a while. But those final 40 minutes of padding are deadly.

Embrace of the Serpent
Usually in this film club I try to know as little as possible about movies that I select. A lot of times I'll jump onto wikipedia afterwards or search out reviews to try to pick up anything I missed, read about different perspectives or even understand opinions that might be wildly different from my own. Most of the time though I just like going in fresh so I can watch a film with a clean slate. When watching Embrace of the Serpent I had no idea what it would be about and frankly if I were to be given 10,000 guesses as to it's plot there's no way I would have ever been close. It tells two different stories but the stories share one goal, to obtain a rare plant with healing properties. The first story involves Theo Martius, a German visitor to the Amazon who is dying of a mysterious illness. He tracks down Karamakate, an Amazonian hermit and medicine man who instructs him that they must find the yakruna plant, the one thing that might save him. Karamakate is reluctant to help him as he holds a disdain for white men and finds them to be pretty simple minded. The movie then jumps to Evan, another man canoeing up to Karamakate and tells him how plants are his life. This impresses Karamakate who himself is much older and weathered. We revisit each character along their journey through the Amazon and observe their conversations with Karamakate at different stages of his life.
Movies like Embrace of the Serpent are sometimes a little hard for me to wrap my head around, at least initially. It's a very slow burn of a movie but at the same time it's not a movie that's boring or drags. The first few scenes are put together very well as it's clear that we're seeing two different stories involving a younger then much older Karamakate however there isn't much to allude to how either storyline resolves itself. There's some but not enough to make it obvious that the movie will go in any particular direction. Although each storyline has the same goal of finding a yakruna plant it was interesting seeing the juxtaposition and symbolism woven between the separate characters, some more subtle than others (the serpent and jaguar might have been a little on the nose). There's I'm not sure if I necessarily agree that it was a movie that needed to be shot in black and white but it was still a beautifully shot film that featured richly developed characters. This is definitely a movie that I would like to read more about and explore because I think it's worth more than just a single viewing on Amazon Prime (no pun intended). It's not a movie for everyone and would probably drive some people crazy but it's one that feels as though you'll get more out of it with subsequent viewings if you have the patience.

I loved Embrace of the Serpent, and I found the elliptical storytelling that parallels the two timelines to be fascinating, especially when they return to the church which is now governed by a different form of fanatical religion.
Can't wait to see the director's next work.

On second thought it's the beginning of the weekend, what better time to get the next round of film club going? I included myself again to keep it at an even number. I'll try to watch mine sooner rather than later in the event that I find myself slammed again like the last round. Anyways enough about me, let's get this thing poppin. ROUND 178
Dracula - PG Cooper Jibbs - IanTheCool Doomsday - Deexan 1godzillafan - Nilade
Let's all try to have these done by Monday, July 23rd. Nilade, see if you can get your previous review in post haste.
Enjoy!

Porco Rosso
Porco Rosso, the sixth film from Hayao Miyazaki, is about a veteran World War I fighter pilot that lost his faith in humanity, transformed into a pig, and became a bounty hunter known as Porco Rosso (Crimson Pig). After rescuing a group of kidnapped school girls from sea pirates, they retaliate by hiring an American Ace pilot that is Porco Rosso’s equal. The chain of events that follow lead to an inevitable showdown between the two pilots.
This film is one of Miyazaki’s earlier works and, based on the films I’ve seen from him so far, seems to be one of his more adult efforts. Porco is portrayed as pig, with the soul of a man, who is so haunted by his past that he seems to prefer a life where he could honorably die in the sky, instead of settling down with his life-long love. Not exactly what I would consider a children’s character, yet he does what it takes to defeat his enemies without taking their lives, even if it might cost him his own. Also, it’s a pretty violent film, complete with some exciting aerial dog fights and a pretty extreme one-on-one fist fight in the climax.
In regards to the animation, it ranks up there with Miyazaki’s best, with beautifully drawn European locations and spectacular air-fights, but it’s hard not to notice how much technology has helped improve animation in the decades that followed.
In short, I really enjoyed this film. It’s nice to watch a Miyazaki film where “Save The Planet” is not the focus, but a rousing adventure, with respect for its historical and geographical locations, is. Not his best, but has now made its way into my top 3, although I wouldn’t recommend it for children.
8/10

Ooh, sounds like you and I have some common ground. Some of those sound interesting. I've already seen (and love) Hot Fuzz, and while it might be the safe choice I'm probably going to go with Spirited Away. I've been meaning to watch that for a while, and I actually have a copy handy thanks to friends. I Saw the Devil might be my number two choice if I can't get to that though. I'm racking my brain to think of some obscure stuff that I think gets overlooked. Some of these might be well known, but these are some movies I really enjoy, and I'm going to try and keep it diverse. Let me know if you've seen them all. I haven't seen any of these, but it looks like Ikiru is readily available to rent on Amazon Prime, and it looks pretty interesting, so that it is.
