Starting a new round. For those of you still outstanding reviews from last round or the round before... Round 217Nilade - donny Dracula - PG Cooper PhantomKnight - thebtskink Can we aim for April 11th as a due date? It's almost an entire month to watch a movie and write some stuff about it. My faith is shaken but it can be restored.

First things first.
Paterson
I really should see more Jim Jarmusch, but of the three Jarmusch movies I have seen, I think Paterson is easily my favourite. It's funny because it doesn't have the genre elements of Only Lovers Left Alive or the high concept of Night on Earth, it's just a really solid story told on a modest level. The film looks at a bus driver and poet played by Adam Driver over the course of about a week as he does...not much. Mostly we just see his routine. Driving the bus day after day, spending time at home with his girlfriend, grabbing a drink at the local bar, and writing his poems. In a more typical film, this would be the story of a small-town joe who needs to fulfill his dreams and break the cycle of tedium, but not here. Jarmusch seems more interested in finding the comfort in the routine. That's not to say there's no drama to be found here. A late turn in the story isn't exactly life or death, but in the context of Paterson certainly feels devastating.
This movie feels like one of the protagonist's poems. Knowingly humble, not out to change the world, and not even particularly concerned with playing to a larger audience. It's just nice. Sometimes that adjective is used in a condescending way or as faint praise, but not here. There's a real comfort to Paterson that feels totally sincere and crept up on me as the film went on. Good stuff.
B+
Thanks for the quality rec, donny.

Sorry, got distracted by a video game and forgot about this. Unacceptable. I would never. I definitely don't have almost 70 hours logged. Anyway, my desire to see Night of the Kings clashes with my animosity towards Bell Internet and signing up for Crave again. I'll probably do either Quo vadis, Aida or Pixote. Gonna be a cheery round either way.

Going to tackle Dark Souls II --> Dark Souls III --> Sekiro --> Elden Ring. XBox player, so gotta skip Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, unless they come to PC. Considering the amount of time it took me to get through Dark Souls, I doubt I'll even get to Elden Ring this year, but we'll see.
