Rachel is a Millennial lesbian (possibly Jewish) living in New York with her senile dad, slutty older sister and emotionally distressed niece. The four of them live in an apartment above a neighborhood theatre that they own and operate. Dad’s the playwright. Sis’ the star. Rachel runs the business. One day, dad passes away and Rachel learns the deed to the theatre belongs to her mother who’s a veteran actress on a soap opera. The character is played by Judith Light of Who’s the Boss fame who might as well play the Crypt Keeper these days. I’m pretty sure she died at some point and they dragged her decomposed body throughout production and then just CGI’d facial movement in post.
But anyway, the movie is basically Rachel and her mom going through the motions of putting their feelings aside to have some sort of relationship while also dealing with her Millennial shenanigans.
Overall, it’s a really good New York movie. Woody Allen isn’t allowed to work anymore so might as well pass the baton to a young-ish lesbian. Just as long as you hire my boy SnoBorderZero.
