Okay, I will concede that if it's Chief Wiggum PI then I will watch every damn episode. Don't get too excited there. Chief Wiggum P.I. was inspired by the Hill Street Blues spin-off, Beverly Hills Buntz. It crashed and burned, and rightfully so. There are a couple of things worth noting before writing off the notion of a Simpsons spin-off. First and foremost is that The Simpsons is itself a spin-off of The Tracy Ullman Show. As absurd as a spin-off usually seems at first, every once in a while they turn out to be a huge success. Frasier was on for eleven years after Cheers was cancelled. The Jeffersons was on for eleven seasons as well, while their originator All in the Family was only on for nine. Sometimes, the spin-off is superior to the original. Daria is far better than Beavis & Butthead. |

I know that Hank is very similar to the old guy next door, but I'm pretty sure he's not actually the same character. |
