Which actually came out first? The original cartoon or Deathstalker? Both came out the same year and one seems to have influenced the other.

The cast has actual voice actors, which is always a good sign.

Watched this over the weekend. As someone who played with He-Man toys and watched the cartoon show, I could tell you almost nothing about it today except "He-Man fight Skeletor." This show is almost impenetrable unless you remember all that MOTU lore. Like when they killed Moss Man at the beginning I was like "Why is Swamp Thing in this show and why is He-Man so upset?"
Here is what is cool about it: The tone of this show is like taking the cheesy 80's cartoon and pushing it through a dark turning point that they never would have aired on the Saturday morning status quo, like Transformers: The Movie and GI Joe: The Movie did way back in the day. Characters are a bit more fleshed out and are pushed to their limit in a dark and more detailed story set amidst that lore. It brings me nostalgia of not just He-Man but renting those particular tapes and watching Optimus Prime duel Megaton to the death or seeing Serpentor stab Duke through the heart with a snake. I'm not always up to speed with what's going on in the show, but this is good stuff. It's like the hyper-edgy He-Man: The Movie that the 80's never gave us. I also like how the quest had both heroes and villains teaming up for a common goal. Seeing them interact and even bond was a treat.
That being said, all that review bombing that's happening right now, I can't help but feel Kevin Smith made it worse. Comparing the initial report of "Teela is the better He-Man" and Smith's denial of that claim to the final show itself, I can safely say that both the leak report and Smith were both being truthful and lying at the same time. I think the leak was real, and the asshole who reported it embellished it to get a rise out of people, and Smith objected to the embellishment, even though some of the things reported do actually happen in the show. At no point does He-Man "step aside" so Teela can be "the new He-Man." He-Man does however die in the first episode, and Teela becomes the lead in a quest to reforge the Sword of Power, and He-Man does come back into play later on. As the report suggests, she does have a lady companion, but there is no real statement that they are lovers. Though considering Teela is a very butch woman with trust issues living alone with a woman, it would come as no surprise that they each take turns deep diving into each other.
The evidence here is that the report was real, but it was spun in a way to get people pissed off. Smith tried to get people to calm down, but the news fit the show just enough to make him look like he was lying to them. But the reaction to what the show is is completely overblown and people are acting like children.
I'm going to say it's good, not great. I'd probably love it more if I remembered more MOTU lore than I do, but the Dolph Lundgren movie is fresher in my memory than any of the cartoons, so I don't think that counts.

I watched the cartoons but remember nothing about them. Then when you said review bombing I looked it up and saw this. For those of us that know nothing about it and steered clear solely because Kevin Smith's name was attached to it, what's the meat and potatoes of the story?

I still need to check this out. MOTU was probably the main toyline in my life as a young clown. Loved it then, love it now, hopefully this is worth my time.

The story choices made the one woman the lead character basically and skeletor an incel, it has angered many people. But smith lead all the promos with the fact that he was never a big lover of the original series. But it's mainly the shoe horning in of 'wokeness' is what has angered that vocal internet.

If I remember correctly, the storyline to Revelation was conceived before Smith was hired and the producer pitching it was calling it "Masters of the Universe: The End of the Universe," Smith just put together a writers room for it to outline it and script it out and oversaw post production on it. Smith did watch MOTU when he was younger, but he was a tween when it was on and he mostly watched it because he didn't have many channels back then, so he knew a lot about the show but he wasn't like "HE-MAN IS MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD!" Between then and now, a YouTuber claimed he had some insider information that said "He-Man steps aside to allow Teela to become the new, better He-Man and she and her girlfriend are the new heroes of MOTU." Smith responded to it on Twitter denying it, but the YouTuber doubled down and so did Smith, and there was this campaign of manbabies crying about this show ever since. That's kind of not what the show is, but there are enough similarities that you can see where there was a root of truth to the story report, it was just given a Fox News spin to create maximum outrage. The premise of the show is basically that the first episode is how the battle between He-Man and Skeletor ends. Skeletor finds his way into the lair of the Sorceress of Eternia and threatens to wipe out all of existence by trying to destroy a magic orb that is the heart of Eternia's magic. In a last ditch effort to save existence, He-Man uses the Sword of Power as a conduit to control the explosion, but it winds up vaporizing both him and Skeletor. Before He-Man dies, Teela sees him turn back into Prince Adam, revealing his identity to her. Episode two picks up a while after that, and the Masters of the Universe are basically broken up and Teela is a sort of bounty hunter with a lady sidekick who may or may not be her girl toy. She is called fourth by the rapidly aging Sorceress because Eternia's magic is about to die forever. Teela has to team up with Evil-Lyn to go on a quest to find the two halves of the Sword of Power, reforge them, and save Eternia, both of which are lying in the Heaven and Hell of Eternia, the latter being the Valhalla-like afterlife for Champions, where Prince Adam currently is. And a couple of character deaths along the way too. This first half of the series ends: Adam leaves the afterlife with Teela to help save Eternia. Adam weilds the Sword of Power to heal the magic orb, and right after he does, Skeletor reveals himself to still be alive and hiding in Evil-Lyn's magic staff, and he stabs Adam from behind. Skeletor then takes the Sword of Power and becomes basically a Super Skeletor while Adam is dying (again) on the ground and Teela watches in horror and Evil-Lyn defects to his side. It's a pretty good show, all be told. It's just being drug down over petty nonsense. I'll be watching part two when it drops, because I'm curious about where it goes from here.

Ok but what are the main details behind the controversy? Men are mad they can't get laid and object to women being anything than fuck toys in their 80's cartoons. If you think this is weird, you should read some of the shit posted on that She-Ra reboot. That was complete yikes.
