Its been a while since we’ve gotten a psycho bitch movie. Crazy to think one could be made in 2019. You’d think feminists would be outraged. But if anyone can get away with it, it’s Blumhouse. Octavia Spenser stars as a lunatic whose still angry about a high school prank and will seek revenge by attacking the sons and daughters of those who wronged her. Part of me liked the movie. Another parts wishes it had pushed the envelope more. There’s a scene in this movie in which Octavia Spencer has a dick in one hand and a knife in the other. The audience, no joke, fucking gasped and then she doesn’t chop it off. It’s like, c’mon bro, don’t hold back. The people wanna see something outrageous. They’re ready. You could have been the one, Ma.

I saw an unfinished version of this and the dick-handling certainly stood out. Shoulda lopped that bad boy right off.

Wow. Winning an Oscar doesn't really make the good roles follow huh?

Clearly your definition option of a good role differs from mine.

I'm surprised this got a wide release. Pretty generic story, not a lot of tension, mostly because Olivia is as not-scary as it gets, and she doesn't pose much of a threat. Dumb decisions are made throughout, and they tried to do that whole "the psycho lady is friends with all the grownups, so no one will ever believe the kids" thing briefly, but that didn't work based on the backstory. Also, a lady totally eats it and gets murdered, and I don't even recall anything being said said about it.
I dunno, movie was just weak, the action kind of ramps up near the end, and then it's just over. I've seen other, much better versions of this trope-ridden film many times before.
4/10

Clearly your definition option of a good role differs from mine. It's a juicy role that is a lot of evil fun to play, but it will never get an Oscar nomination

Dug it. A lot of people seem to be complaining based on the trailer how dumb the kids are to go along with this, but the movie doesn't work if they aren't. Plus, the script makes them dumb in a believable sort of way and it addresses why they go there in the first place and why they keep getting suckered into going back to Ma's that feels credible. I really liked how this movie built the tension, but also had a dark streak of humor to it at times. And it goes without saying that Octavia Spencer crushes it. Just these looks that she gets in her eyes are effective all on their own. She creates a horror movie character that's distinctive all on her own. Sure, a lot of it is stuff we've seen before, but it's the execution that matters most, and I thought this movie was executed quite well. The Third Act is just insane. In a good way. I kind of wish they hadn't given away some of those shots in the trailer, but the whole climax of this movie, I was just sitting there with a morbidly fascinated grin on my face the whole time -- when I wasn't squirming at a few things. Which is what you want from a movie like this.
To each their own, Deexan, but I quite enjoyed this.

To each their own, Deexan, but I quite enjoyed this. The (other) lesbian from Booksmart is really good in this. The teens are stupid but she’s cautiously stupid which adds credibility as you say.

So you didn't say in the thread for this over in the Coming Soon section:
"It's not good."
&
"You shall be disappointed." ?

I stand corrected! I have since softened my stance, taking into account its unfinished state. But i didnt expect it to turn into a great film in post, that's for sure.

Well, supposedly, they trimmed it down quite a bit. Got rid of a lot of the more superfluous stuff. Sounded like the initial cut was longer than 99 minutes. But this version feels fairly focused, so I don't know what the cut you saw was like.

Unless there was more flashback scenes.

I believe Tate Taylor said in an interview there were more scenes with the teens hanging out at school that were cut.
