As part of his presentation of the full slate for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has announced that Chadwick Boseman will bring the Black Panther to life beginning with his role in Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” in theaters May 6, 2016, before starring in his own solo film, Marvel's "Black Panther," on November 3, 2017. “I’m blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, and to work with you both, and I look forward to making magic together,” Boseman said after taking the stage with both Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America). “Black Panther and all of Wakanda is one of the most interesting characters in Marvel history," remarked Feige. Black Panther certainly seemed to be the next choice for a stand alone film. Awesome.
Do you guys think they are going to treat him like Cap and give him a movie solely centered around him, with minimal series connections?

Do you guys think they are going to treat him like Cap and give him a movie solely centered around him, with minimal series connections? It seems more than likely. In the comics, Wakanda is a traditionally isolationist nation. The first time Black Panther will be thrust into the international spotlight is during the Civil War. This is likely to lead to Wakanda being even more inclined towards isolationism, while driving T'Challa to be more concerned about how the rest of the world can be a threat to his kingdom, especially if the Civil War has a negative impact on Wakanda. |

I suspect the solo 'Black Panther' will be its own entity for the most part, but we'll have seen both him (Cap 3) and Wakanda (Age of Ultron) at least once each before the solo film, so I'm sure there will be connections here and there.

At least some connections are inevitable, since he's being introduced in Civil War. Most of the characters who exist in the MCU are likely to be making at least a brief appearance, which means that Black Panther will encounter many of them. Those connections will no doubt lead to his membership on one of the Avengers teams that will be formed to deal with the Infinity War. |

Release date has changed again, now opening earlier on February 16th, 2018. Its original release date in July '18 is instead being occupied by the Ant-Man sequel.

Why is Ant Man getting such a big release summer date? Every sequel to a Marvel solo character's movie has vastly out performed the original. Ant-Man performed better than initially expected by Marvel Studios, so it warrants a summer date. |

Why not?
Where he lands at that stage in the bigger picture may be the answer, although completely speculative. Ant-Man will be in two more films before his own sequel: Civil War and Infinity War Part 1. Black Panther will also be in Civil War, then his own film, and then Infinity War.
Since we don't know exactly how those are going to pan out, at the very least we can assume Feige has selected the order of release for these films based on the events of those stories as well.
