Tolkien - Review Thread You have to be in a particular mood to watch a movie like this, slowburn period drama are not everyone’s cup of tea. But I Love early era 1900’s Britain movies and tv shows. Seeing Tolkien as a romantic literature genius that he was, and how his early age and time as a WW1 soldier influenced his writing and books made me feel more appreciate of his journey to writing Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. The scenes of the Somme, were as realistic as I have watched in a film, it can never be as what really happened. But the pure insanity of this war that Tolkien witness, merged with clever artistic direction to shape out characters that featured in Lord of the Rings, how much of this influenced in the movies and books is up for debate and imagination. My only complaint is I wish we had more scenes capturing his time writing the books and being an Oxford professor. Also I think there is a movie that could be made of him meeting C.S. Lewis and the influence they had on one another. Overall I enjoyed watching him grow up, find love, heartbreak, and then journey into a nightmare that was probably the seeds for future use in his writing. 7.5/10
