PG Cooper has been a world-class snob ever since he started putting Dracula's nut sack in his mouth, but maybe there's hope to reignite joy in his life. Like my fellow old geezers Doomsday and 1godzillafan I haven't watched wrestling since the late 20th century when The Rock had hair, called everyone a jabroni and asked us to smell his farts. So when I heard they made a biopic about Paige the sex tape girl and it's produced by The Rock, of all people, I had to chuckle. We all applauded this chick taking it like a porn star in her videos but did we REALLY need a movie about it? Is it gonna be a MeToo story about how we shouldn't jack off to celebrity's fornicating? Apparently not. It turns out that Paige is a big deal in the WWE and has an interesting origin, so fascinating in fact, that Stephen Merchant, of all people, wrote and directed the film. The fuck? The story takes us to the lower income parts of England, where Deexan is known by his rap name Phenomenon, and a teenage girl named Saraya Bevis aspires to be the female Stone Cold Steve Austin. Her parents and brother (played by Nick Frost, Lena Heady and Jack Lowden) run a wrestling school in the afternoon and host local matches in the night time. Saraya auditions for the WWE, when they're in town for Wrestlemania, and is chosen for the WWE Bootcamp in Florida. Those old enough might be familiar with the bootcamp because it was the subject matter of an MTV reality series in the early 2000's. What follows is pretty much that, the rigorous training with the added bonus of putting a teenage girl at the center of it. All joking aside, it does make for a really good sports drama. There's cliches, which is to be expected, but they're overcome with emotion and humor. Florence Pugh, who plays Saraya/Paige, is excellent in the role and helps the movie feel engaging. You root for this girl, which is what you want from any underdog story. So I genuinely believe that PG Cooper, who spent his youth wrestling in the backyard in Ontario Canada, will feel human again. He'll too want to be a teenage girl in the WWE and show his butthole on the internet. I think this time next year PG Cooper will be putting this movie in his top 10.

I think the movie looks cute, but I also think the WWE is a fucked up organization and I'm not sure how I feel about a movie that glamourizes them.

Like my fellow old geezers Doomsday and 1godzillafan I haven't watched wrestling since the late 20th century when The Rock had hair, Oh I stopped watching wrestling long before that. WWE was WWF, my age was still in the single digits, and before Hulk Hogan became Hollywood Hogan for some reason. I had no clue who the Rock was until The Mummy Returns. Honestly my first reaction to the trailer to this movie was "Why the FUCK would you remake Ready to Rumble?"

It's pretty typical of merchants style, which always does well with me at least. Just very charming and sweet hitting all the right beats, nothing absolutely incredible but enjoyable for what it is. I liked it.

It’s almost criminal that PG Cooper hasn’t done a video essay yet.

I don't imagine Coop is a very big fan of Vince McMahon, neither as a WWE CEO nor as a person in general.

Wait. So… Triple H runs WWE now? I need a PG Cooper video essay to explain it to me. It was recently reported that Vince had paid millions to hush up various affairs with employees, including coercing one wrestler into sexual acts. He initially seemed set to stay but recently announced his retirement. Rumors are swirling that more shit is going to soon come to light but that's still speculation. But...it's Vince so it makes sense. Triple H had recently returned to his behind the scenes duties and was for years the key creative voice behind NXT, WWE's smaller brand designed to cultivate young talent that was, until its recent non-Tripe H rebrand, highly acclaimed. He's the logical choice to takeover now.
