Hiccup and his band of dragons are under attack by Roger Stone. Meanwhile, Toothless falls in love and discovers a hidden world of dragons for him to protect and lead. Hiccup and Toothless are on a crossroad. If they continue their partnership they’ll always be in danger from those who don’t believe in the union of humans and dragons. If Toothless goes off to the hidden world, they’ll be safe but apart forever. PhantomKnight, bring tissues. Overall, the movie resolves the structural issues of Part 2 but unfortunately also lacks the magic of the original. It’s a good movie and wraps up a pretty good trilogy. Could it have been better? Sure. But it’s an achievement for DreamWorks nonetheless, that puts them in competition with the other animation studios.

Well, that ending pretty much wrecked me. Most tear-inducing ending to an animated movie since Toy Story 3? Absolutely. Best of the trilogy? Just maybe. I'll have to think on it a little. But seriously, this has proven to be the best animated trilogy since Toy Story and hell, maybe even one of my favorite trilogies of all time, period. And it's so appropriate that it closes on a film that's equal parts exciting, funny, charming, dramatic and extremely emotional. Just like the second, The Hidden World delves further into character, relationships and mythology in really satisfying ways. While the film is still populated by side characters whose function is to mainly be the designated kid movie comic relief, the core of the series -- Hiccup and Toothless -- very much remains the focus, and everything related to that is strong and engaging. And it really drives home just how good the writing has been for this series overall. If these movies hadn't done such a terrific job of getting us so emotionally invested in these characters and this world, then this trilogy wrap-up wouldn't have nearly the impact that it does. In addition to Hiccup and Toothless, another relationship I found myself invested in was Hiccup and Astrid. This is a couple in an animated series, and yet, how they've developed over the course of these three films -- while not seemingly as much of a focal point as other aspects -- has felt genuine and sweet. Again, it's the focus on characters and relationships that have really made this franchise so unexpectedly special. Taken on its own merits, though, and not just the final chapter, The Hidden World is an engaging movie. So, my God, go see it. But bring tissues.
Hovering around 3 1/2, maybe even 4 stars. I REALLY liked this.

Best movie I've seen so far this year.
But of course the only other movie I've seen so far is Glass and fuck that movie.

It's... Okay?
The battles are uninspired, the action barely being picked up from the fog the animators have surrounded a lot of their set pieces with (not a great look imo). The hidden world was fantastic and by far the best part of this movie. And it lasts for maybe 8 minutes.
6/10 for overall, pretty medium whelming. 8/10 for those 8 minutes in the hidden world though.
