6 years after the events in the first movie, Princess Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) is bored of being the star of the Sugar Rush arcade game. So she ventures off into the World Wide Web and joins the online game Slaughter Race where she also befriends a street race name Shank (Gal Gadot). This all troubles Wreck-It Ralph (John C. Reilly) whose jealousy and insecurities get the best of him and mayhem soon follows. The movie is... okay. The animation is great. There’s some chuckle worthy scenes. There’s not much else to say. No, actually, I take that back. This movie is kind of annoying. There’s two premises within the story that would have made a better movie than the plot they chose. The first is the Disney Princesses. They’re really amusing and I would have loved to have seen more of that. The meet Vanellope and shed their dresses for t-shirts & pants and band together like a group of woke college girls that need no man to rescue them. The second is an end credit scene that’s just Wreck-It Ralph in a comedy skit. It’s by far the funniest scene in the movie. Wreck-It Ralph is Disney’s version of Shrek. No need to over-think and over-plot. Just be funny. Oh, and Wyldstaar, this movie now has the distinction of have the first post-death cameo by Stan Lee.

This is Alan Menken's best work.

I liked the first Wreck-It Ralph well enough when I first saw it, though I also thought it was the weakest of the non-Pixar Disney animated films of the past decade, and my thoughts are pretty much the same with the sequel, Ralph Breaks The Internet. Now, I'm not saying this is bad or anything -- far from it -- but for all the creativity this movie shows when it comes to visualizing/personifying the Internet itself, the main plot (while entertaining) is mostly just fine. In fact, this sequel interestingly enough runs into the same issue as the first: Ralph essentially becomes delegated to a supporting character in his own movie while Venelope gets most of the spotlight. To be fair, her dilemma and emotional arc is legitimately effective, but it just seems kind of weird that the movie doesn't have enough faith in its title character to let him carry it. One could argue this is both Ralph and Venelope's story equally, and I wouldn't necessarily contradict that, but it's still something that seemed odd to me about this movie. All told, though, Ralph Breaks The Internet is an enjoyable enough time and in true Disney fashion it provides good doses of humor and heart, but it ain't Moana, Frozen, Big Hero 6 or even Tangled.

So...in the last Wreck-It Ralph movie it was a fairly big plot point that Venelope couldn't leave Sugar Rush, which wasn't changed by the end of the movie. The first thing we see in this movie is Venelope outside her game with Ralph just chillin', without any mention of it at all. Why set up rules if you're just going to ignore them?
There are ideas in the movie that almost work but it just never reaches where it wants to go. Certain parts of the movie are pretty great, and I still love Ralph and Venelope's interplay, but the movie is pretty mediocre.
Except for the Princesses. Every scene with them was fucking gold.

She couldn't leave because she was unplugged from the game's programming, therefore, she was a glitch...until she was connected back in.

Aha. Maybe I need to watch it again, but I don't recall that being very clear.
Still, if I wanted to get super nitpicky I'd point out Ralph left his game for a few hours in the first one and all hell broke loose. Ralph leaves for about two or three days in this one and nobody seems to notice. But that's probably looking too deeply into this story about living video game characters.
