I'm intrigued if they will let it play with the conventional tropes. They've shut down so many fun fan things I feel like they're almost to Disney levels of forcing everyone to have a good time within their parameters.

I saw the trailer earlier today, and promptly forgot about it. It's a shame the release of The Orville killed the TV adaptation of Red Shirts by John Scalzi that was in development. It's a comedy based on the members of a Star Trekish starship who don't work on the bridge. The book has a meta narrative in which one of the titular red shirts discovers that he and everyone else on the ship are characters in a TV show, and that his fate is in the hands of lazy screenwriters who kill members of the crew to provide dramatic tension for the audience, rather than going to the extra effort of building tension through the narrative of the story.

I mean, I guess. This is kind of like making Reno 911 a spinoff of Law & Order though.
"Relax, it was set to.........set to stun." made me laugh anyway.

I think it looks fun. Doesn't feel like it should be an actual licensed Star Trek property, but whatever I guess. Still... don't want to subscribe to CBS All Access.

Tried watching the first episode last night
Couldn’t make it past 10 mins.
Who the hell decided to make this a futurama and Rick and Morty rip off
What is wrong with CBS??
You don’t need to copy other people’s homework
You already have decades of mythology and stories in front of you!
Most sci-fi movies and shows would die to have that type of content
