From what I've heard it requires a larger appreciation of some black/gallows humor. A lot of people just don't find it that funny when it's so obvious who is to blame for these things.
But certainly disappointed when I saw those first scores. Was looking forward to this. Now not as much.

Oh no this is just bad. When it goes for irreverence it basically never hits. Couple funny parts here and there but extremely rare.
And just over the top dramatic and the ending scenes with the flashing images and the return of the tea cups... Fucking kill me.
Avoid this. You've been warned.

I liked it, but most of McKay's bag of tricks work with me. Not all of it, but enough to make be feel positive enough about the movie.

It just seemed like try hard bullshit mixed with old people humor mixed with theater nerd laughs. Like they really were leaning into the mad tv side of their writing room.
The Shakespeare bit, the part with the credits rolling, all just felt so cheap and reminded me honestly of bill maher jokes. Just too obvious and edgelord-y to make any impact.
And the genuine moments of drama were just so deadened by the scenes they actively tried to be silly making the whole thing tone deaf, unfocused, and very clearly angry.
