Sad to hear of Julee Cruise's passing...though it's not helping my urge to order the Twin Peaks Complete TV collection Blu-Ray.

I'm tempted to buy the OG series and the Return separately instead...except I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a Blu-Ray release of just the original series that's in this region.

Hitting up a Ray Liotta double-feature today at my local indie theater with Field of Dreams and Goodfellas. I'm famously lukewarm on Field of Dreams around these parts but we'll see if my opinions shift. Either way, the main event is gonna rock.

God, I love that movie. Hope your opinion of it shifts up. Can't say my opinion shifted majorly on Field of Dreams. For the most part, I was reminded that the film executes on many elements quite well - fun cast, looks nice, strong sense of pacing - and that it isn't really for me. Way too cornball sentimental, the fact that the movie basically demands a certain romance towards baseball doesn't help either. Also, that ending... kudos I guess for going all-in on schmaltz but my first instinct is to eye-roll. I suppose I would say I had a new found respect for the Burt Lancaster subplot, which has a very strong set-up and pay-off. So maybe the film went from a C+ to a B-. I can recognize that it does its thing pretty well, but its thing is not what I want. Goodfellas was, predictably, a fucking blast. One of those moviegoing experiences where my jaw starts to stiffen because I realize I've been grinning from ear-to-ear for over two hours. On this viewing I was specifically thinking of Ray Liotta, and while there are so many brilliant things he does, big and small, that make the movie, these thirty seconds or so (from where the link starts up until Henry leaves) have always made me howl with laughter:

The funny thing is I don't care whatsoever about baseball, yet love the shit out of Field of Dreams. It really just wraps you up in its world and characters and executes on such a high level, schmaltz included.

Field of Dreams strikes me as a movie tailor-made for people with a pretty specific set of "daddy issues" and works well for them. For those of us with fathers who didn't give a shit about sports, it just seems kind of weird.

Drac, whatever else, I think we can all agree Fields of Dreams is certainly not a movie anyone would expect you to like lol.

That moment when you wake up and discover your Twitter mentions are a mess because the writers of Mystery Science Theater 3000 reignited an argument over the differences between a lamb and a goat.

A lamb and a goat? They're different animals at different ages. Would not lamb vs kid and sheep vs. goat be the more logical comparison?

She's right about Duck Duck Gray Duck... Heathen! It's a more strategic and sophisticated version of the game introduced by Swedish immigrants, if the rest of the country can't handle this important cultural import that's on them.
