This is probably one of my dumbest tweets, which is saying something, but for some reason it's gaining large-ish traction.
The only other time I received any sort of attention on this level was this one, where I responded to some dude who deleted his account after a backlash reaction to responding to this tweet with "Why can't you time travel if you're black?"
I'm still getting people randomly liking that one.
Anyway, I have no point, just an observation. A lot of people hate Kirk and love Leo.

Liking tweets and reading the feed is all I do, besides reposting some here.
I only haven't reposted the Letterboxd Come and See review because I assumed Coop was gonna do it.

Honestly that was just something I threw on there high on melatonin where I was like "lol Kirk, the Cousin Oliver of your show sucks less than you do." Had I known a lot of people would have seen it because they were looking up shittalking, I would have probably phrased it better.
But this is not the weirdest Twitter traction I've ever had. Last year I reviewed a fan riff of Gamera vs. Viras and initially got the normal reception I receive for blog posts. Two weeks later I get about twenty likes and retweets from random Japanese accounts in a single day and I still don't know what they thought that tweet was. I'm picturing just a group of Japanese otaku looking up Gamera and saw this little American account posting about it. I don't even know if they knew what a "riff" was or if they clicked the link to the fan video at all, but I kept getting likes from Japanese accounts for a few days after that. And then for a few months I would still get a random like on that tweet after that. I have no clue what the fuck that even was.

So, with our youngest, my wife and I have decided that we not going to do the whole Santa thing. We've never given her gifts from Santa, even before now. Christmas morning, the tree would just be filled with presents from us, and not from Santa, and this year, after a discussion, we flat out told her that Santa wasn't real, and only a fictional character. During the yearly Christmas phone calls with our parents, when they ask her if she "got a lot of gifts from Santa," we tell them that "we don't do that," and they seemed upset and almost disappointed. Our child, however, doesn't really seem to care. She gets the presents either way, and I'd like to think she has more of an appreciation of them knowing that they're from Mom and Dad rather than some magical, fictional, gift giver.
Thoughts?

I'd say you're doing the right thing, but I'm a Scrooge about most things Christmas, so I might be a bit out of step with popular opinion about this.

I don't see an issue at all. Personally I don't ever remember Santa being all that important to my own Christmas experiences and I don't think it'd have been much different had my parents never done the whole facade.

I'm on the other side but respect your thoughts. I tend to think kids would look back and feel they missed out on the surprise of Santa in the morning but I think that's really more about me and my background taking the pilot seat. Lots of kids won't believe in Santa and they won't skip a beat. My bro in law's family does same as you Friz. They're about not wanting their kids to buy into the marketing side and keeping the reason for the season. I also have heard of a movement about parents needing to be radically honest with their kids. I agree with that in theory but if my kid hits their head and there's blood everywhere and they ask me, "am I going to be ok?" I'm not going to say, I don't know, you might die."

We always did both, people were so inspired by santa that they bought each other gifts too.
But whatever floats your boat, I like the Santa myth.

I grew up working class. No one did the Santa Claus thing. We’d be lucky to get one video game for Christmas and parents made sure their kids knew they spent $60 on that shit. Santa Claus is an outdated concept from an era when kids would ask for a bicycle or a Yo-Yo for Christmas. You can’t tell kids that Santa Claus exists and then have them ask Santa for a PS5. Bitch, if I’m not getting PS5, you’re definitely not getting one.

Bitch, if I’m not getting PS5, you’re definitely not getting one. I'm sure there's a graph somewhere that shows that every 5 years, millions of kids learn that Santa isn't real.

Have to get this out... feeling like I can't trust anyone with how I feel or what's on my mind. No, I'm not paranoid, it's just this specific holiday season, just the way it's rolling, I can't seem to get any traction and understanding as to others knowing how I feel. It's not new, a conditioning from childhood to attend to others and put myself in the background. Just wish someone could have noticed that and stood up for me and told me my opinions were important and I was of value other than being the peacemaker in the family. Because now, all of that history is starting to bubble to the surface and it's just making it super difficult to feel connected to others and I'm just tired of defaulting to numb from it all.
Sorry, super emo post but I stand by it as that's how I feel.
