I talked about putting some kind of donor option in place years ago, with possibly giveaways for those who want to donate. Clearly I never got around to it. I'll try to look into setting something up.

Trying to decide what bidet seat to buy for the new house.... Closing day is next week already got the new toilet... Just forget if there's an outlet close by. I ain't getting a bidet without a heated seat and heater to warm the water.
Thinking toto is the leader and should stick with the Japanese manufacturer.
Sick of being a slave to big toilet paper.

Film Eighteen: Hour of the Wolf (1968) I’ve long put off seeing this Bergman classic, in part because I was holding out for Criterion to put it out and when they did it was only as part of that expensive boxed set I don’t want to buy. Fortunately the movie eventually aired on TCM so I was able to DVR it and finally give it a go. I’ve heard this referred to as Bergman making a horror movie, which it sort of is and sort of isn’t. The film opens with a title card implying that the film is based on the diary of an artist who disappeared which was a touch that oddly reminded me a bit of the Texas Chainsaw massacre and it then incorporates scenes of characters talking directly to the camera but not necessarily in a way that’s entirely supposed to invoke documentary filmmaking. The film was Bergman’s follow-up to Persona and can in some ways be viewed as an evolution of the style he developed in that film with a similar attempt to operate on a deeply psychological rather than literal level while incorporating some more nightmarish elements to the proceedings. The wolf in the title is not literal, the “hour of the wolf” refers to a metaphorical hour of the night when the most deaths but also most births occur and that is meant to refer to a sort of low point in a person’s life which is kind of what Bergman himself felt like he was going through at the time. He had just separated from his baby mama Liv Ullmann (who would nonetheless continue to act in his movies, including this one) and was having sort of a breakdown over it and this was meant to be something of a metaphor for that. The third act is where the movie really starts to verge into what can probably rightly be called a horror movie with some nightmare imagery that may be legitimately supernatural or which may be symbolic but which is pretty freaky either way. ****1/2 out of Five
Bonus Film: The Leopard Man (1943) This is the third film from the famed Val Lewton/ Jacques Tourneur team which had previously made Cat People and I Walked with a Zombie and was the last film Tourneur made before directing his skills toward non-horror films. It’s not as storied as the two films that came before it but is nonetheless another overachieving B-movie from the duo. This one is set in New Mexico and focuses on a situation where a leopard (actually a jaguar) escapes from a guy who rented it for the day as a promotional stunt. Afterwards there are a string of deaths that may or may not have been caused by said feline. I will say, the lamest thing about the movie is the “leopard” as seen in the early scenes, which is this tiny thing you aren’t too inclined to think is an actual man eater. Were they to have had the budget for a slightly more impressive cat that might have paid off a bit later on, but ultimately that’s not really supposed to be the point. Like with Cat People, this was a film that had its title chosen for the filmmakers rather than the reverse, and like that movie it is not really about any kind of were-leopard but it does go a long way by being set in an interesting location which predates the famed noir Ride the Pink Horse in finding some interest in 1940s New Mexico. Not as important as some of Lewton’s other movies, but worth a look. *** out of FiveYou’re drunk

Wishing I could take off my counsellor hat a lot easier than I can right now. Feeling overwhelmed and needing some time off.

I forgot if I've mentioned this or anything, but I haven't been around for a while because I've been dealing with some pretty serious sciatica. It goes back to April, but I hurt myself and it got really bad late last month. I'm getting surgery soon and will hopefully be on the road to recovery after that. Cheers.
