The year he was nominated for the Oscar for Boogie Nights is a wild supporting actor nominee list.

A 70's icon who managed to stay in the public eye long after his contemporaries fell by the wayside. He will be missed.
Been meaning to re-watch Smoky & The Bandit for a while now. Maybe tonight.

He was on My Name is Earl. That's good enough for me.

A 70's icon who managed to stay in the public eye long after his contemporaries fell by the wayside. Did he though? Sure. He was in loads of movies in the 70's and 80's. In the 90's, he transitioned to television as the star of the series Evening Shade. After that, he did loads of character roles on film and TV, including Boogie Nights. In the 00's, Burt continued to as a character actor in roles large ( The Dukes of Hazzard) and small ( The X-Files). The same holds true for the 10's. I suspect that most under 40 only recognize Burt Reynolds as a character actor, rather than the leading man he was in his twenties and thirties. Nevertheless, he's one of those actors that everybody's seen due to how prolific he's been. Once an actor gets to the point where they've played themselves on multiple occasions, they've become iconic.

A 70's icon who managed to stay in the public eye long after his contemporaries fell by the wayside. Did he though? He outlived Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson.
