I'm still only in the first season, but it's definitely picking up and I'm getting more and more into it. Binge watching makes it easy to stay connected with everything going on.
On a side note, I was scanning some reviews on Netflix and I couldn't help but laugh at the absurd number of 1 star reviews based solely on the fact that a bunch of idiots couldn't take the profanity. Seriously, there's like 30 reviews on the first 20 pages alone with exactly that. I hate when people do this. It's the show's fault that you're too stupid to realize that a gritty cop show by HBO (rated MA) is going to have curse words? They should use different words? Yeah, because I'm sure all the drug exchanges in Baltimore go more like "Oh, hello good sir. I was wondering if you had any of the good stuff? I'd really love to partake in some of that, it'd be delightful!" Seriously, some people just don't deserve to have opinions on things. The MPAA clearly states in their ratings why a movie/show is rated what it is. If you don't like a movie/show for actual reasons, fine. But because it has too many "f-bombs" it's just a horrible show? Some people really need to step outside of their gated communities once in awhile, they'd be shocked to find out what the real world is like.

Just finished Season One. Really strong overall, though the last episode played out more like a drawn out epilogue and preview for Season Two than an actual finale. Still, it was a great season and it impressed me with its subtleties and resistance to making a spectacle out of police work. They show the downtime, the constant waiting, the leads that lead to nothing, etc. I hate shows and movies where every clue leads to a bigger one, as if detective work is so formulaic and that bad guys leave such easily followed trails. Oh, and Omar is the shit. Easily the best part of the season even though he's only in it here and there. On to Season Two!

Finished Season Two and I thought it was really good. Maybe not as strong as the first season, but the drop off is pretty minimal. I've heard the next two seasons are the best of the series so I'm really excited about that. The writing and cast is so strong in this show, it's really impressive. There was a lack of Omar in this season, which was disappointing, but I'm guessing he makes a grand return in the next one.
Indeed.

Only 3 episodes in so far but I'm really enjoying it. I didn't mind the port plot of last season, but this already feels more like season one since it's so linked to the drug trade and Barksdale trying to stay relevant while in prison and also the corrupt politics going on with the Mayor and the police force. It's been really strong stuff, and I've heard this and season 4 are the best of the show so I'm excited to see how it plays out.

Just finished the entire show, such a ride. A definite 10/10 for me, I'd probably rank the seasons 4, 3, 1, 2, 5.

Nice. Yeah, I think most people would agree with season 4 being the best.

Yeah, the storyline focusing around Baltimore kids and the politics within the school system were really interesting, as were the mayoral races and Marlo's rise to power. Season 5 wasn't as strong and with only 10 episodes didn't flesh out idea as well (the newspaper angle should've been way more interesting than it was) but it was still a solid end to the show.

My ranking would have been 1, 4, 2, 3, 5, though it's been a while since I watched them.

Damn, this show is good.
It blows my mind that its first season is almost 20 years old.
Oh indeed.

Season 2 was definitely different.
David Simon is ridiculously knowledgeable about Baltimore.
The show is almost quaint now looking back at how what was then advanced technology has aged so swiftly.
Regarding Nick, I'm glad one Sobotka made it out alive.
I have some issues with Ziggy. I didn't buy into his murderous turn, a character like him in that environment would've got his comeuppance way sooner and if Nick was smart he never would've kept him in the loop.
Still, premium tier TV. And the fact that the fat homicide lieutenant pretty much fucked the whole case by not putting two and two together when Zig shot the store owner was crushingly realistic.

Most people feel a little confused after season 2 as it is so different. I think you'll really like three though
