It's smiling and pointing at us, but it never winks.
It should have winked. It wants to be Roger Corman in premise without going all the way with the goofball-ness. Statham is Statham, and there's forced humor and melodrama in between the shark destruction. This movie's formula is essentially plot, character, destruction, rinse, repeat. It works, and it's harmless.
Not quite the goofy movie it's being sold as, but not quite the fun summer blockbuster it wants to be.

I had more fun with this than I thought I would have. Probably the most fun I've had with a shark movie since Deep Blue Sea, at any rate. Definitely one of the more fun creature features of the year, for my money more enjoyable than Jurassic World by a long shot.
Though the ending should have had ended with Statham roundhouse kicking the shark in the face and sending him flying straight into the sun. I take that back, that should have been the beginning. It should have been opening credits, waBAM, closing credits. Because I don't care how big your shark is, Jason Statham can kick its ass.

This is the type of "mindless summer flick" I want.
I wish more movies could be this stupid and fun, the ones that are "Transformers" and "GI Joe" are the worst.

That said, I did find the shark to be more arousing and to have superior lips.

By far the worst movie I've watched this year. It wasn't even good bad! The only reason I didn't turn it off after half an hour was because I had nothing else to watch. A generous 3/10
