We still have an Ethan Hunt adventure and a Meg to fight, but right now, this is King Of Summer 2018. It's tightly paced, no bloat, and tension that defines the cliche "edge of your seat." The Rock is solid, and it's nice to see Neve Campbell channeling her inner Sydney Prescott again*.
It's not looking to win awards and redefine any genres. It's entertainment at its highest level, and for that, it succeeds in spades. Give this the attention it deserves.
* - I now want a SCREAM 5 where Ghostface gets verbally assaulted by The Rock on the phone, and it culminates in The Great One laying the smack down on the Woodsboro Killer.

It's not looking to win awards and redefine any genres. It's entertainment at its highest level, and for that, it succeeds in spades. Skyscraper is entertainment at it's most pandering to the masses. If it were truly at the "highest level," then it would be winning awards and redefining genres. This is just another generic popcorn movie, and that's okay. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. It may very well be an entertaining ride, but get a grip.

Well...it is a tall building...so "highest level" can still apply in humorous pun form.

I don't think Die Hard won too many awards.

It was a "meh, whatever, nothing better is on" action movie. On the Rock-O-Meter, it was less "ugh" than San Andreas but less dumbass fun than Rampage.
It seems to me a film centered around Skyscraper action should have played up vertigo a bit more, similar to Ghost Protocol. Instead a lot of the cinematography was low angles looking up at Dwayne Johnson, trying to make him look even more massive. Missed opportunity in my mind.

Just like Rampage, this was just...fine. And much like that movie, I've mostly already forgotten about it. It's certainly competent and contains good enough thrills to keep you entertained in the moment, but that's about it. A very surface-level movie and nothing more.

This guy plays the same character in every movie. He should be his own cinematic universe.
