Damn, came here to post this. While I'd rather see his direct sequel to Aliens I'll take a Robocop reboot from him. Pbar, what are your thoughts? Here goes and it may shock you; I'm on board. Blomkamp's first three pictures are enjoyable (I've softened on DISTRICT 9 in the more recent years,) and CHAPPIE is essentially the ROBORemake we should have had. Plus, Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are involved and they are legend. Here's hoping we get the first good ROBOCOP since 1987. |

I'm open to the possibility that Blomkamp can do this. If they make it rated R, lots of violent satire, keep the budget in the $60-$70 million range, they've got a chance of doing this right. If they turn this into another vanilla, PG-13 Robocop who carries a tazer, I'm not touching this thing with a ten meter cattle prod.

Chappie was useless, derivative and a major step backwards for him. I should be excited about this, and I think he'll certainly make this as true to the original as he can, but each of his films have gotten subsequently worse from District 9.
I really like his short films (Temp Bot is brilliant stuff) and believe in him as a filmmaker, but Chappie was garbage and he's gonna need to tackle this project like he's got something to prove. Still, with as awful as the remake and sequels have been, the bar is a low one for him to step over. If he's the one to save this franchise that's deserved so much better since the brilliant original, I'm all for it.

I went to a press screening of the remake under the condition I wouldn't break the projector if I hated it.
The projector survived. I didn't.
