The Island is better than THX. Oh please, The Phantom Menace is a better movie than The Island. The Island is an awful film, even by Bay's standards.

George made far more than two good movies. He directed two good movies, but he's still the man behind two of the best trilogies of all time: Star Wars and Indiana Jones. These are movies that not only blew people away upon their original release, but have held up as being genuine quality over the past thirty years. In another thirty years, they will still be regarded as classics.
As for Bay, nobody is going to give a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys about any of his garbage in thirty years. Flashy crap may be enough to get butts in theater seats, but it doesn't stand the test of time.

The Phantom Menace is a better movie than The Island. It's not. He's still the man behind two of the best trilogies of all time I think the Star Wars prequels and Indiana Jones IV proved that George Lucas wasn't the reason the earlier movies worked. In case you hadn't noticed, it has been 20 years since Bad Boys and 19 years since The Rock.

In case you hadn't noticed, it has been 20 years since Bad Boys and 19 years since The Rock. Filmmaking is supposed to be a collaborative process. George is a great idea man, and needs other creative people around him to assemble his ideas into a cohesive story. The Prequels and Crystal Skull would have been just as good as the original Trilogies if a comparable team of filmmakers had been brought together, rather than Emperor Lucas thinking he can do no wrong. The original Trilogies maintained a perfect balance between Creator and creation. What followed lacked any balance, and the result was a mess. This doesn't mean that George is proven to be inconsequential to the success of the earlier films. It just indicates where his talents truly lay, and where they don't. As for Bad Boys and The Rock, I have to wonder how many twenty-somethings of today have ever seen them.

It just indicates where his talents truly lay, and where they don't. Meaning, get out of the way and let the true professionals do their job. George Lucas is a businessman, not an artist. Transformers was released 8 years ago and was popular among teenage boys. Don't you think those teenage boys watched other Michael Bay movies? And since those teenagers from 8 years ago are now 20-somethings, wouldn't that mean that they've seen Bad Boys and The Rock as well as everything else Michael Bay has made?

I would rather watch Phantom Menace 5 times than watching The Island once more, that movie was trash when it came out and I'm sure it's only gotten worse with time. At least I can laugh at Phantom Menace, Bay's productions are soulless.

No. You have too much faith in today's youth. Ask PG Cooper , SnoBorderZero and PhantomKnight about today's young people. You'll be shocked.

The only Bay films I've seen are The Rock, The Island, and the first two Transformers films. But I know that a lot of people my age have seen most, if not all, of his work without even necessarily meaning to.

I'll grant that plenty of twenty-somethings have seen some older Michael Bay movies. The movie marathons on cable make that almost inevitable. The question is, did they find flicks like Bad Boys and The Rock to be genuinely good movies, or just a way to kill a couple hours when there was nothing better to do?

I was lured in to the theater by the trailer for Pearl Harbor, but once the movie started I came very close to just walking out. It was very clear within the first few minutes exactly how things were going to unfold between Affleck, Hartnett and Beckinsale. I only stuck around to see the big battle take place, and the slim hope that just maybe the screenwriter was trying to subvert expectations and do something beyond the predictable Hollywood formula. No such luck in that regard, obviously. At least the battle was pretty good.
There's certainly no way in hell I ever need to see that POS again.

Yeah. I haven't bothered to rewatch Pearl Harbor since it was released, and yet, the memory of it is still in my head. Is that what PTSD is?

Yeah. I haven't bothered to rewatch Pearl Harbor since it was released, and yet, the memory of it is still in my head. Is that what PTSD is? It's easy to remember because of how hopelessly formulaic the plot is. I only saw it once as well.

While the story may humanize Bay, that doesn't change the fact that he makes shit movies. The guy hasn't made a movie that wasn't a total shit show since The Rock (1996).
