After the Lady Ghostbusters grossed $3 billion and won 12 Academy Awards, Hollywood went looking for the next male movie to gender bend. What they come up with was a remake of a remake starring Sandra Bullock as Michael Jackson, Cate Blanchett as the avatar from Ready Player One, Anne Hathaway as Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter as something from a Tim Burton movie, Sarah Paulson as Sarah Paulson, Aquafina as Zephyrhills and Rihanna as Elliot Gould. Their plan is to steal a $150 million diamond necklace that’s being worn by a celebrity at the Met Gala. How will these wacky ladies pull it off, and will Nancy Sinatra play in the soundtrack, cause you know, her dad was in the original? I’ve never been a fan of the Ocean’s movies. The original is enjoyable for featuring the Rat Pack in their heyday, but the George Clooney ones were style over substance. I can see where Warner Bros is coming from, watching Now You See Me and Going In Style and thinking, “hey we started that.” But the problem is these movies have no one to root for. Let me take you back to PG Cooper’s favorite movie, Tower Heist. That movie worked because it had characters you could relate to and a premise perfectly timed for the financial crisis of 2008. Ocean’s 8 has Sandra Bullock stealing a diamond necklace so she could get revenge on her ex-boyfriend... and make some cash in the process. Is that really “the message” you want in your feminist movie, the scornful ex-girlfriend? How about gender bend National Treasure and have Female Nick Cage break into the White House and steal Trump’s toupee? There are ways to pander without insulting people’s intelligence.

Is there a noticeable difference in style with the new director?

I've been hearing pretty good things. Who'da thunk that if you made an all-female reboot of a popular franchise and make sure it's not a total piece of shit while also not having its central message be 'either see it or you're sexist' that things would turn out pretty well?

Is there a noticeable difference in style with the new director? Yes and No. If I remember correctly... Ocean's 12 was the weird one. This isn't Ocean's 12. But it's very much in tune with Ocean's 11 and Ocean's 13.

Ocean's 12's downfall was that it tried way too hard to be a smart caper film. They also thought the whole 'Tess looks just like Julia Roberts' gag would work a lot better than it did. I rewatched it again on Netflix and didn't mind it as much as I did when I first saw it, it just has a lot of problems.
Ocean's 13 on the other hand was just a collection of movie stars acting cool and laughing at us while cashing their multi-million dollar paychecks. It was fun but very self-indulgent.

Does this mean I can punch him in the nose for Spectre?

How was Rihanna in it? I watch Valerian and The City Of A Thousand Planets a few weeks ago, and Rihanna's voice acting in it was so bad it almost brought down the whole movie. She's with some heavy hitters in this one, so just wondering if she's able to keep up.

Much like Solo, it's fine. The chemistry between the cast is certainly there and Gary Ross does a good enough job of replicating Soderbergh's style without outright copying it, but the story's pretty routine and doesn't quite have the pizazz of Eleven or even Thirteen.
