Wyldstaar Let's discuss the elder abuse Stan Lee is going through and how nobody is stopping it. It's been going on for decades. The LA area is full of professional leeches, searching for someone successful to bleed dry. The death of his wife has only made things worse.

The first big problem was in 1998 when a bunch of internet speculators conned Stan into signing on to form Stan Lee Media. When the dot-com bubble burst, it was lawsuits and bankruptcy all around. From the ashes of Stan Lee Media rose another bunch of crooks. In 2001, Stan got roped in by some more folks who turned out to be very shady to form a company called POW! Entertainment. The scumbags who run POW claim they own anything and everything Stan Lee has ever had anything to do with, including his own identity and likeness. Stan's been at war with them for years.

While he's over-credited for sure, he definitely had a part to play in most of the classic Marvel characters. It's sad to see him taken advantage of.
I hope somehow his daughter gets back in control, or at least to push the manager out. Kevin Smith has offered to house him to get him away from that creep.

When someone becomes the public face of a company, it's inevitable that they get more credit than they deserve. That's just the way public relations work, especially when that person is more than just a spokesperson. A guy at work mentioned to me once that he pitied Marvel Comics for the inevitable day when Stan Lee died and they had to find someone else to write all their comics for them. He honestly thought Stan has still been writing all their comics for them. He was shocked when I told him Stan stopped working there as a full-time writer in the early 1970's. That's the power of perception, flawed though it may be.

Claremont and others are way more responsible for the 80s, 90s, and now revival of popularity than he is. And Jack Kirby's role as well. But at a certain point of his prolific careers you have to hand it to him. At least 30% of the totality of the 60's shit was him. And that's still goddamned impressive.

I'd say that more than 30% of Marvel's success in the 60's was thanks to Stan's direct influence. Considering that it's the characters created in that era which became the bedrock today's Marvel Entertainment is built upon, that's no small feat. It's not Stan's fault he gets all the credit. It was, and still is, his job to do PR for Marvel. It also could be argued that much of Marvel's success it due to how great a spokesperson Stan has been for Marvel. DC never had anyone like Stan to represent them to the public with as much flair and charm.

With them all gathered together like that, it's a shame they didn't take the time to show Rob how to draw people below the knee.
