For all the shit the Transformers movies got, at least they had personality. Shia LaBeouf. His goofy parents. Megan Fox. Racist robots. These Pacific Rim movies are so fucking bland, I don’t know why a major studio funded them. The first one was ugly to look at, annoyingly repetitive and largely forgettable. The sequel at least looks good and the actors put effort into their roles, but the plot is so generic I don’t understand why anyone even bothered to make the movie. Its predecessor was a box office disappointment if I recall correctly. So who the fuck was this made for, the Asian market? Oh, please. They’re making their own lowest-common-denominator blockbusters that are putting American box office to shame. Pacific Rim had zero reason to exist. Zero. I wish we could unit as a nation and tell Hollywood “no”. Can you imagine a movie that literally made no money. But of course, some 12 year old is gonna waste their allowance on this shit.

I enjoyed the original Pacific Rim a great deal for what it is. I'm a fan of Kaiju movies, and Pacific Rim was the first time I've seen Hollywood do the genre justice. While the lead was blandly generic, I enjoyed the supporting cast plenty.
As for the sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising isn't as good, but it's passable. It's got plenty of action, but it's missing something (Del Toro at the helm). The opening spends five minutes introducing the audience to the world that has sprung up in the wake of the first film, only to completely abandon that world after the first big action scene. The number of plot holes and contradictions to the first film steadily build throughout the movie. By the time the big action finale rolls around, I'm rolling my eyes at the absurdness of what is taking place to justify what's happening. I would have enjoyed it more if I were the sort who can turn his brain off, but I'm not.

Reminded me a bit of the Independence Day sequel. It wasn't nearly as enjoyable as the original, but I had more fun watching it than I probably should have. It definitely had the most gleeful disregard for human life I've seen in a good long while. Personally if I'm to get highly destructive, brainless sequels to something, I'd rather it be Pacific Rim than something like Fast and the Furious. But I grew up on Godzilla movies, so I'm hardwired for this shit.
Scrapper's my new favorite Jaeger. That little guy stole the show.

You guys are trolling PhantomKnight into watching this movie. Don't listen to them. Watch Sherlock Gnomes instead.

Absolutely none of the jokes and humor hit for me. Well maybe once or twice, but boyega has zero charisma and basically everyone sucks at acting in this. His original partner was maybe the worst character in this, every scene he just ate up with his hollow acting and shitty dialogue. You can be cheesy and still be good but this was just boring acting and a pretty terrible story. Although the Charlie day stuff, particularly in the beginning, was very dark and interesting before the 'reveal' but then it all went down hill from there. British lab guy from the first one wasn't given much to work with. But I'd probably see another sequel if they made one.
I guess the rippers were cool? This movie didn't need to be made. Meh.
