A case for when a movie can be better the book, I say. Trippy, atmospheric and so damn intriguing. In the tradition of hard science fiction where you're not always sure what's going on or what's going to come next, but you're always interested to see what does. This is a film aimed squarely at adults and is more concerned with ideas than explosions, and Alex Garland leans into it. Garland is also able to keep the mysterious aspects of the novel intact while expanding upon them and also adding what I thought the book lacked - a human component. It's definitely a film that will require multiple viewings, but also one where I'd be happy to oblige that.

Awesome. Only thing I'd have changed was the weird strings music they had in some scenes. Ending music was great but those strings man... Brought me out of it.
9/10 will probably see this again this coming week.

I was thinking Stalker meets Apocalypse Now.
Great movie, all the way through. I think I like Ex Machina better, though.

Yeah, I'll agree with the sentiment this far. I really liked it. Probably 8.5 or 9 out of 10. Need to think about it a little more, and definitely want to see it again in theaters. My favorite movie thus far for 2018, though its very early.
It also seems there is a nice trend of sci-fi movies in the last few years with this, Ex Machina, Arrival and Midnight Special. I'm sure there are others, but those stick out.

I enjoyed it for the most part. Ex Machina is a much better film but this was a cool concept, for me your either okay with the ending or your not.
I was not, so that will hit my final score. But the cinematography, music, and story are still pretty stellar over all.

Saw this again last night. Didn't really pick up on all that much new, but it was on a bigger screen and it was just as delightful as the first time.
Sticking with my 9/10. Movie just really turns up pretty quickly.

Excellent film. I tried reading the novel recently, and couldn't get through it. So boring... Great performances, amazing visuals, compelling ideas and interesting characters. Highly recommend.

I tweeted this earlier, but I wanted to put it here and get your guys' thoughts on it here. Mike from Red Letter Media made a point to say that THIS is the movie that Hollywood should be circle jerking over regarding the alleged lack of women in STEM roles. Unfortunately there was no fake outrage manufactured to help promote this movie, so it largely went unnoticed.
I enjoyed this movie. The diaglogue was a bit clunky at times, but I think it was more than made up for with an interesting story, characters and visuals.
I'm also curious if Alex Garland has done DMT. I feel like there were similarities between this and some of the visuals in Enter the Void that were inspired by the drug. It doesn't change how I feel about the movie. I'm just curious.

I (sort of) know someone who went to some resort to do it just recently. I'll be seeing him next month, I wonder if he'll have seen the movie and I can ask him about it. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense that it would tie in with the death/rebirth/separation themes. Fuckin' neat-o

I'm the opposite. I thought it was pretty average until the last 20 or so minutes. That's when I decided that I loved the movie.
