I suspect it's more fluff than anything else. I'm sure the Doctor, and Black Panther, and whoever else comes along will definitely exist within the confines of the MCU. There has actually been some debate that they may use Doctor Strange to introduce the idea of the Illuminati. I think that could be a pretty great idea, but it relies on them being able to get RDJ to sign up for more films since it would need to be the two of them, Black Bolt when they get around to 'The Inhumans', Black Panther, and maybe Ant-Man (since Yellowjacket was traditionally a member, and they won't be introducing this version of Yellowjacket into the MCU). All of those characters will have been introduced by the third Avengers films, maybe that's a part of it... in fact, they could even use 'Part 1' to introduce Black Bolt too, that way he's not a total stranger when 'The Inhumans' comes out later that year. I'm sure Strange will exist in the MCU, but I'm not so sure about his place in it. Will he be just another character who winds up as an Avenger, or will he be part of something different? As for the Illuminati, that might be an interesting place to go. Even without Reed Richards and Charles Xavier, it's got lots of potential there. When was Yellowjacket a member of the Illuminati, though? I've read numerous stories featuring them, and none of them ever had him as a member. It was always Stark, Richards, Strange, Xavier, Black Bolt and Namor. T'Challa was invited to join, but he declined. |

I don't think he'll be an Avenger in the sense that he's running around on the ground fighting Thanos' minions or whatever, but I'm sure he'll feature in the next Avengers films in some capacity.
And both Yellowjacket and Black Panther joined as of September this year.

And both Yellowjacket and Black Panther joined as of September this year. That would explain why I've never heard of Yellowjacket being an Illuminati member. I read Marvel comics via the Marvel Unlimited digital subscription service. Digital comics on that plan don't become available until six months after the original publication date, so nothing from September is on my reading list yet. That said, if Yellowjacket didn't join until this September, he's hardly "traditionally a member". They've been appearing in comics for almost ten years. |

Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen is up for a mystery villain role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange
Although “Hannibal” has just one episode left, leading man Mads Mikkelsen’s future is looking awfully bright. Not only will he star in Gareth Edwards’ upcoming Star Wars entry, Rogue One, but Variety is now reporting that Mads Mikkelsen is also in talks to play a mystery villain role in Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange!
Whoever he’s playing, Mads Mikkelsen won’t be the only villain in the Scott Derrickson film. It was revealed back in June that Chiwetel Ejiofor will be playing the good doctor’s arch foe, Baron Mordo. Despite Mordo’s villainous role in the comics, it was said when Eijofor’s casting was announced that the cinematic version will serve as an amalgamation of several characters in the Strange canon. It’s likely that we’ll first see Mordo an ally.
This isn’t the first time that Marvel has looked to Mads Mikkelsen to play a comic book villain. Back in 2012, Mikkelsen was up for the role of Malekith in Thor: The Dark World. The part ultimate went to “Doctor Who” star Christopher Eccleston.
Scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016, Doctor Strange is scripted by Jon Spaihts and directed by Scott Derrickson. It is said to follow the story of neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
Also attached to star in Doctor Strange is Tilda Swinton, who will be playing the Ancient One. Rachel McAdams has also been rumored for an as of yet unconfirmed role.
Although no official Doctor Strange artwork has yet been revealed, fans attending the recent D23 Expo in Anaheim, California were treated to a concept art sizzle reel, teasing the look of the “Phase Three” entry.

TheWrap brings word directly from the Toronto International Film Festival where Mean Girls and “True Detective” star Rachel McAdams has confirmed she will star in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Cumberbatch looks pretty awesome. But I kinda wanna see Robert Downey and Cumberbatch have a scene in Avengers. I mean both guys who played Sherlock Holms.
