Still Say This Role Has Johnny Depp all over it. But if Ewan gets it good for him cause he needs a big movie chance since the Star War movies.

I think Ewan could do a great job as Doctor Strange.

I'd be fine with Ewan McGregor. I just really don't want Johnny Depp.

From what I've read, Cumberbatch hasn't actually signed on yet, but he is in negotiations with Marvel Studios. I think it's likely that he'll agree to the role. A part like Doctor Strange could move him to the Hollywood A-list. I just hope that they don't try to force an American accent upon him. Being from the US isn't an integral part of his character.

Strange is from Philadelphia but studied medicine in NY - then after his accident he studied magic in Tibet and all over the world making countless connections with sorcerers So since it's easy to pick up dialects from living in differen places it's possible they will keep the accent. (Vincent Price spoke with the perfect voice for Strange and he was born in St Louis - and Bob Hope was actually born in London and sounded like he was from some place like St Louis lol - always thought that was odd - furthermore, Orson Wells had a great voice type for Strange and he was born in Kenosha Wisconsin - Wells and Price both sounded British to me)

Orson Welles never sounded British to me, but Vincent Price does sound European to me.

My dream casting for this would have been Hugh Laurie, but I think that Benedict Cumberbatch can pull off the off-kilter weird pdychodelic feel of the 60s-70s run.
God I hope they go full acid trip.

It will be interesting to see both Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr. fighting together since they both have played Sherlock Holmes.
If we even get that far who knows what Marvel has up their sleeves these days. Things are moving fast

My dream casting for this would have been Hugh Laurie Yeah... that's actually a good choice. But I don't think anyone at Marvel even thought about Hugh Laurie. Ever since House ended, Laurie has fallen off the radar. Hollywood probably forgot he exists.

Orson Welles never sounded British to me, but Vincent Price does sound European to me. Maybe it's because I listen to Old Time Radio shows - Wells sounded British on most of those - he did the voice for Lamont Cranston "The Shadow" and also hosted a show called The Black Museum which was supposed to be a crime museum of Scotland Yard.

Ever since House ended, Laurie has fallen off the radar. Hollywood probably forgot he exists. Two reason I can see that not working out: Hugh Laurie not wanting to be typecast in a role meant for a middle aged asshole surgeon. Marvel wanting to potentially drag out the role over multiple years and not wanting to be tied to the actors age. BTW, Laurie has a few kickass blues albums .

I hope Cumberbatch is confirmed sooner rather than later. Boseman was a good "get", Cumberbatch would be even better. Can't wait to see who else is recruited into the MCU.

Cumberbatch is a good actor but I wouldn't be too disappointed if they went with someone else. Ethan Hawke, Adrian Brody perhaps..

I can't help but wonder what Feige means by this. It can be interpreted in several different ways. Does Doctor Strange being in "a whole new corner of the cinematic universe" mean that he will be there isolated from the MCU we've already seen? Does it mean that he's just the first of many new similar characters on the way?

I suspect it's more fluff than anything else. I'm sure the Doctor, and Black Panther, and whoever else comes along will definitely exist within the confines of the MCU.
There has actually been some debate that they may use Doctor Strange to introduce the idea of the Illuminati. I think that could be a pretty great idea, but it relies on them being able to get RDJ to sign up for more films since it would need to be the two of them, Black Bolt when they get around to 'The Inhumans', Black Panther, and maybe Ant-Man (since Yellowjacket was traditionally a member, and they won't be introducing this version of Yellowjacket into the MCU). All of those characters will have been introduced by the third Avengers films, maybe that's a part of it... in fact, they could even use 'Part 1' to introduce Black Bolt too, that way he's not a total stranger when 'The Inhumans' comes out later that year.
